Soccer Updates

First off the women advanced to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament with a 3-0 over Ole Miss. Carolina seems to be playing some their best soccer at the right time. They have won their last three matches by a combined score of 11-1. USC will play Georgia at 7:30 pm on Thursday. Carolina beat Georgia 1-0 in Athens on September 22, in the schools only meeting this season.

Men's Soccer

FROM USC:

The South Carolina men’s soccer team (5-7-4, 1-4-3 SBC) dropped its regular season finale 3-0 Tuesday night (Nov. 1) to No. 2 Kentucky (11-0-5, 5-0-3 SBC). Prior to the match the Gamecocks honors its five seniors, Brian Banahan, Logan Frost, Logan Hitzeman, Parker League, and Alex McDonald, along with team manager Ryan Wimmer.

The two teams will see each other again in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament, when the Gamecocks travel to the Wildcats November 6 for a 7 p.m. start.

In the match, UK out-shot Carolina 25-3. McDonald earned his first career start on Senior Night and tied a team season-high with seven saves.

The Gamecocks were unable to get their offensive attack going, as each of their three shot attempts were off target.

Kentucky opened the scoring in the 36th minute, putting home a rebound after McDonald stopped the initial shot. They would add goals in the 64th and 83rd minutes.

THOUGHTS: Overall Carolina was hoping to take a more of a step forward this season. I do believe that they were improved this season although the record is pretty similar. 5-7-4 this season and 5-9-2 last season. The Cocks are likely going to finish at 5-8-4 after their first round matchup with #2 Kentucky in the Sun Belt Tournament. This was only Tony Annan's second season in Columbia and he was improved the talent and has a quality class coming in. Annan is in a very similar position as Shane Beamer. Baby steps.

Beamer should be fired if:

he refuses to make major changes in the off season, new OC, new line coach, new QB for starters. SC is the only program in the SEC that accepts mediocrity. Look at Tenn, they fired three coaches in just a few years and insisted on the athletic dept finding the right one. Two seasons later look where they are. SC FANS STOP SUPPORTING A LOUSY PROGRAM>>>>>>

Too Beamer "Hope"

Beamer,

When I first heard you were going to be the next coach at USC I was indifferent. Then I became excited, not for the fact that you brought anything to the table, but more that you didn't. You were new yet familiar. You didn't have baggage winning or losing. Your genuine love for the school and honest approach of this job being your dream job gave me "hope". I am one of your biggest advocates and fans. Felt like a breath of fresh air moving on from Muschamp.

With that being said, me as a fan. I'm disappointed. Yes your 1st year was incredible and the upsets against Kentucky & Texas A&M are amazing. Yet watching Missouri game was as expected. Gamecocks have been more lucky than good and that is a recipe for disaster. I admire your loyalty, but it's time for changes. I know you would say what does a fan know about being a Head coach for a power 5 school. My answer would be nothing. Yet as a business owner I would. My brother and I share an HVAC company. How does this relate. Imagine I'm the athletic director for the school or the owner of an NFL team. I understand that fans are your business. With out them you have no job. Fans buy tickets, merchandise, purchase cable & satellite, sponsorship, NIL deals, and many more things. You as a coach you are a director for a movie. In your case a gladiator sport. It is your job to provide entertainment and the best product possible. I know that you were not given a huge budget to buy the best staff, but as in life we work with what we have. I will not name names, but state facts. Your offense is atrocious and no matter what you believe the season will continue this way until you make some drastic changes. Otherwise eluding back to me being an owner. Your staff and the fans will cost you your job. Make the tough decisions and become one of the greats. I believe that "you" have it in you.

Olympic Sport Update 10-28 to 10-30

Unfortunately, Carolina didn't fair much better in Olympic Sports than they did on the gridiron this weekend:

VOLLEYBALL

FROM USC:

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina lost at home for just the second time this fall, losing 3-1 to Texas A&M (12-10, 4-7 SEC) on Friday night. The Gamecocks fall back to .500 for the season at 10-10 overall and now stand at 4-6 in conference play.

UP NEXT
It will be a busy week coming up for the Gamecocks, starting Wednesday night with a road trip to Arkansas. After the return home from Fayetteville, the team will host Ole Miss for a two-game weekend series running Saturday and Sunday.

MEN'S SOCCER

FROM USC:

ATLANTA – The South Carolina men’s soccer team (5-6-4, 1-3-3 SBC) dropped its final road match of the regular season 2-0 Friday night (Oct. 28) to Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia State (10-3-3, 3-2-2).

On the night, the Panthers out-shot the Gamecocks 23-13, but Carolina held an 8-6 shot on goal advantage.

The Gamecocks came out firing in the first half, putting five shots on goal. However, it would be Georgia State who found the back of the net in the opening period. The Panthers put one home after a pass deflected off several GSU players, before finding the back of the net.

Carolina was unable to keep its offensive momentum going into the start of the second half, as it was limited to one shot in the first 35 minutes. Georgia State added to its lead in the 51st minute on a shot from the left side into the far post. In the final four minutes, the Gamecock offense pushed forward looking for a final scoring opportunity, attempting four shots and putting a pair of shots on goal.

South Carolina returns home to close out the regular season when its hosts No. 2 Kentucky on Tuesday, November 1 at 7 p.m. Prior to the match the Gamecocks will honor its five seniors, Brian Banahan, Logan Frost, Logan Hitzeman, Parker League, and Alex McDonald.
