OT Murdaugh murders two months & counting

there have been comments on the insurance side of this mess, alleging the insurance policies do not cover other incidents such as the housekeeper or the boat wreck
insurance liability limits are set up say for $1million limit per occurrence and usually double that for an aggregate of $2million
a prominent family or person would likely also have an umbrella policy. say up to ten million
this man his family policy and business policy are no doubt set up in this manner, so the insurance company would pay up to one million on one incident....up to two million for policy term then the umbrella kicks in
there is plenty of money to be had, if only we could have resolution from south carolina law enforcement.

Where are our deficiencies?

I don't quite get it. How can our roster be that bad?
I mean... don't we have multiple 5 star players on the D line. And I think we will have the best running back combination in the SEC.
The O line isn't proven.. and the DB's are young. But will that really hold us up from having a winning season?
I guess it would.. so I answered my own question. Ugh.

Injury reporting - this staff vs previous

I suppose we won’t know until the first game if we’ve shed the curse of finding out a crucial player is out…5 minutes before the game. But it was WILD to see Kevin Harris immediately available to speak to the media after the revelation he had back surgery. Think they mentioned that in the insider post but after the Muschamp regime handling injury reports like nuclear codes that was jarring & refreshing.

Pregame Analysis
With the early games in the books already and one other contest halfway over and favoring the Mest The Braves will need to win in order to remain tied for first in the division and to kot fall into 3rd by .5 games. In other words “Sweep to keep the top of the heap”. Catchy and true 😎😎. The Braves will try to keep the momentum by throwing Kyle Muller. He had a frenetic (wild in an uncontrolled manner) performance the last time out it is hoped to have been an outlier of his recent success and hopefully just a blip on the map of his path to consistently incremental success. He is a rather large presence with the motor of a much smaller person and the sweat glands that flow heavily and frequently. He just seemed to have lost his ability to grip the baseball securely enough to throw his fastball and he just became a danger to the batters in the left hand batters box and quite frankly had no idea of where his pitches were going. Here is hoping that he is properly hydrated and find an appropriate drying agent (Towel or rosin bag) to assist in better security and control he needs to be an effective pitcher. When he is on he is a formidable pitcher who throws strikes and works extremely fast. He is best when he can get early contact to allow his defense to work. The amount of energy and number of pitches required for strikeout is more wear and tear and limits his longevity. Look for the bullpen to be tasked with completing this contest and secure the victory in the end.

The Reds will counter with Vladimir Guitterez . He is a RHP who has a 7-3 record but a 4.25 Era. He has only registered 73 innings so that tells me he won’t be finishing the game either. He has faced the Braves before but lost that game giving up a couple of runs. Like Muller he will need to try to keep the score close and extend his outing as many innings as he can muster to save the bullpen after high usage in both games and coming off a taxing weekend and Monday make up game .

Downtown Columbia

Spending the weekend in downtown Columbia for a wedding. Ate at Terra last night and the food was excellent. Staying at the Aloft and it’s pretty nice as well. Saw Williams Brice from a distance and hope to do a drive by today to paint it purple. Wedding and reception tonight at 701 Whaley. Anyone have any suggestions for today? Saw the Black Rooster yesterday and it looked pretty cool.

*** Wednesday Isaiah Norris update…

Shane Beamer said last week that JUCO DB transfer Isaiah Norris was finishing up a class and was expected in any day now.

I’m told that Norris officially moved in today and is getting settled in.
That means that all of South Carolina’s signees have officially arrived on campus.

There is usually an acclimation period before a player can put on the pads, so he will have to work through that process but regardless he is in.

Hoops recruiting: few names to watch as summer ends

--From a recruiting perspective, the priority will be on adding a wing or big man type of player for the 2022 recruiting class. The Gamecocks already have a guard committing in this cycle with in-state guard Zach Davis, who got on an unofficial visit and committed almost on the spot.

Once they landed him, the Gamecocks began focusing on getting a wing with two seniors on the roster in AJ Wilson and James Reese and knowing a guy like Keyshawn Bryant could obviously test NBA waters again after the season.

Here are a few guys to watch now that the live period is over and coaches begin building out recruiting boards entering the fall.

--One name to watch is 2022 prospect Ryan Dunn out of New York. Dunn (6-foot-6, 190 pounds) has been receptive to what South Carolina has been talking to him about and I would anticipate him getting on campus sometime in the preseason for an official visit, likely in September.

Along with South Carolina, Dunn has offers from places like Georgetown, Clemson, Boston College, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia Tech and others.

--Another 2022 player to pay attention to is another small forward in Dominick Barlow out of New Jersey, someone the Gamecocks have begun to push for hard recently. He officially picked up an offer last Thursday.

Barlow is another Northeastern player, this one out of New Jersey (Dumont High School), where the Gamecocks have connections. Chuck Martin is obviously from the area and has recruited it for a long time and Frank Martin has ties to the area as well from his time coaching at Northeastern.

The 6-foot-8 wing had a good summer and has picked up offers from South Carolina, Florida, Iona, Syracuse and Nebraska all last week.

--A center out of North Carolina Christian Reeves is someone the Gamecocks are tracking after hosting him on an official visit earlier this summer and will continue to recruit him as he enters his senior season.

Reeves was complimentary of South Carolina coming off his official visit and the Gamecocks put a really good foot forward while he was on campus. It’s a matter of if the Gamecocks want to bring in another 7-footer with what they anticipate back next season in Wildens Leveque, Tre-Vaughn Minott and Josh Gray in the frontcourt.

--From a 2023 perspective, a lot has been made of GG Jackson, and rightfully so since he’s a top 20 player in the Gamecocks’ backyard, but the Gamecocks are also pushing heavily for top 75 player in the class TJ Power.

Power is another New England guy, playing his high school ball in Massachusetts, and again has been receptive to what the Gamecocks are telling him in the recruitment process. Will Bailey is the assistant who’s taking some of the lead on Power.

He’s also gotten offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Creighton, Iowa, Marquette, Miami, Penn State and Providence.

--From a recruiting standpoint coaches are in the middle of a dead period right now that extends through Aug. 15. Starting Aug. 16 coaches won’t be able to go out and watch players but can host them on campus through September. There should be a day camp at South Carolina in late August when the Gamecocks are able to get some of their prospects on campus. That list will come together over the course of the next few weeks.

A look at the recruiting calendar at the moment:

Aug. 6-15: dead period
Aug. 16-Sept. 8: quiet period (can host prospects)
Sept. 8-Nov. 7: recruiting period (can go off campus to evaluate and host prospects)
