Cam Smith mentioned earlier that he's most likely headed to the NFL draft following this season, but I wanted to give you a full list of folks walking on Senior Day this weekend. It gets a little complicated because of extra COVID eligibility, but here's the breakdown from the Game Notes this week.
SUPER SENIORS: The Gamecocks list nine players (not including transfers) whose eligibility would have expired had not the NCAA allowed the 2020 season to be a “free” year. Those “super seniors” are WR Jalen Brooks, OL Eric Douglas, LB Sherrod Greene, LB Brad Johnson, EDGE Jordan Strachan, WR Chad Terrell, WR Josh Vann, DL M.J. Webb and OL Dylan Wonnum.
ONE FOR THE THUMB: With the NCAA COVID rule allowing for an extra year, four Gamecocks - OL Eric Douglas, LB Brad Johnson, WR Josh Vann, and OL Dylan Wonnum - will become five-year letterwinners.
With all that being said, these are the twenty players expected to take part in Senior Day ceremonies this week:
SENIOR SALUTE: Twenty players are expected to take part in Senior Day ceremonies this week including Nate Adkins, Matt Bailey, Christian Beal-Smith, Jalen Brooks, Wyatt Campbell, Eric Douglas, Sherrod Greene, Jovaughn Gwyn, Brad Johnson, Dakereon Joyner, Hank Manos, Zacch Pickens, Devonni Reed, Darius Rush, Rick Sandidge, Austin Stogner, Chad Terrell, Josh Vann, M.J. Webb, and Dylan Wonnum.
There are some additional folks whose eligibility will allow them to declare for the NFL draft after the season, though they still have a little eligibility left, like the aforementioned Cam Smith. I would think QB Spencer Rattler and EDGE Jordan Burch, among others, will also be thinking about making the jump. We will have updates on their status as we reach the conclusion of the season.
