Braves 🆚 Cardinals 8/04/21 Avoiding The Seesaw Series 😎😎

Welcome to another edition of Gamecock Central Braves Baseball ⚾️ Chat 💬. I am your host @Pfunk Cock along with a plethora of regular participants in the chat. Remember the old days on the playground where the larger kids would torture the younger smaller kids by using their weight to keep them airborne and flailing hopeless and that their mercy? That is the season we are experiencing in Atlanta. The bully keeping them flailing is their own demons. Every time they get close to overcoming the glass ceiling of a winning record the playground scenario emerges and they are left flailing about helplessly seeking stability. It is now time to break that seesaw mold it into extra seating on the train 🚂 that is gaining steam and preparing to roll over everything in its path.

Game two of the 3 game road trip begins at 8:15 tonight as it will again be a battle of left hand pitchers. The Braves will throw Drew Smyly against J A Happ. Looking at the box scores of each lineup against the pitchers would lead you to believe this will be a low scoring affair as neither team has hit very well against these pitchers. If Happ uses the blueprint that Lester had after the second inning it may be a long night for the Braves because some of the later plate appearances showed no growth or knowledge of how to use the entire field when hitting. You cannot make a living trying to pull ground ball pitchers and hitting ground balls to shortstop and third base. You are not going to get many past Arenado or Sosa. I would love to see more ABC baseball from our lineup utilizing all parts of the field of play. I detest watching softball defenses and players unable to offset these confounded alignments. I am also counting on Smyly to continue his newfound ability to throw strikes and keep the ball in the field of play I.e. no gopher balls 😎😎. It will also be nice if he doesn’t elevate his pitch count because he has only been good for around 85 pitches before he is ineffective. We do have a well rested bullpen as they are always needed when he starts a game.

Gamecocks Central Braves Baseball Chat is on the 🕸

Just finished reading the book, "The Cadillac" by Mike Chibbaro - The life story of the Gamecock's, Steve Wadiak ...

It was a great read (269 pages). In my opinion, a plus was the abundant bonus material on the Gamecock's former coach - Rex Enright. Every Gamecock sports fan should read this book. Educates you on college football during that era (1948-1952) - truly fascinating... such a different culture during that time. It's an inspirational read on one of the greatest college football players of that time-period and I can see why his jersey was the first one to be retired by the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Joan Ullyot pioneer female distance runner has died

If your daughter plays sports you owe her a debt.

“Even in the 1970s, women were solemnly told by respected medical experts that distance running would make them unappealingly masculine, could be downright dangerous and perhaps might even cause irreparable damage to their reproductive organs. Ullyot was determined to debunk such nonsense.”

4 Teams way over rated in my opinion
7. Notre Dame - this is laughable. Lost so much talent. The Loss of DC Clark Lea (new Vandy coach) will be big for them). They will be lucky to win 8 games
13. LSU - I don’t buy it. They will be better, but not as deep and 4 losses is likely. Dangerous game vs UCLA
14. USC - typical blue blood name. Can’t run the ball. Will lose to Utah
17. Indiana - Luckiest team in D1 last year. They will remember that they are Indiana this year.

4 Teams not ranked who should be
Utah - Charlie freakin Brewer
UCLA - This is the year Chip Kelly gets over the hump. Great QB
Boston College (if the defense is just average). Love the coach
TCU - always under rated. Have some elite offensive weapons
