Way too early, I know, but I think the game against Arkansas in week 2 this Fall will be a fascinating one to see.

They're on the rise and likewise did well with their transfer class. Being in Fayetteville is a challenge. That'll be one to see and should give us a real sense of where we are.

Who’s ready for that Memphis trip?

Yeah but I live in Little Rock and I’m being selfish! Lol! I want Memphis. 2 hour drive.

In your mind, has Beamer had "a successful first year" *regardless* of what happens in the next two games?

I'm excited about Clemmons and the bowl, but realize we could drop both. I'd say that, yes, Beamer has bagged "successful first year," but that winning even one of the next two puts him at "exceeded all expectations."

I hope this doesn't happen, please say no.

Fair enough. Let those 18-year-olds who join the military drink. Seems like a consistent and reasonable solution.

    Wow I can’t believe I’m saying this …

Yeah, man, I get it. I'm still invested and care, but increasingly it's not dominating my Saturdays like before.

OT: I'm a 1995 History grad. I'm curious: anybody remember Owen Connelly? Had him for Napoleonic warfare. Really liked that guy.

I recall the first day of class he went to the board and wrote two words: "calvary" and "cavalry." He said: "Everybody listen to me. The first word is the name of the hill where Jesus died. The second word refers to soldiers on horseback." I still laugh about that. That guy had obviously gone...

    Wow I can’t believe I’m saying this …

I'm 47 years old and an alumnus. At halftime I went and laid down for a nap and slept like a baby. Opened my eyes and there were two minutes left in the game. Didn't feel bad about that at all. First time I've done that in a lifetime of watching the Gamecocks. Interpret as you will.

So on to Kentucky! How do we fare against them?

I feel pretty good about it, frankly. That was a very, very good team we played last night. Going in with Doty as the starter will help against KY. God willing some of the fundamental problems on the O-line are addressed at least somewhat (I know. I'm skeptical of that too.).

Wow! Norm Macdonald died. He was only 61.

Norm once told one of the funniest jokes I have ever heard in my life. Behold:

Am I alone in missing the occasional Thursday night game? Living out of state with a standing Sunday morning engagement,

it sure was nice on occasion to be able to make the Thursday night road trip.

It's interesting reading Marcus Lattimore's tweets and blog now. I think this has been discussed here a time or two in the past.

Seems like he's in a good place in many ways but a number of his comments sound like he is frustrated at having maybe been used in some way. Also a lot there about unrealistic expectations and images and having to keep them up and the freedom of being honest with yourself and others. Just makes...
