Why didn’t Tony Elliott take the Tennessee job a year ago?

I said what I said. Still not relevant.

    Auburn Fires Bryan Harsin

Maybe for the buyout the school owes him if he is fired without cause. As we know all too well (Muschamp) those can be 8 figures. But agents don‘t allow huge numbers for what a coach owes the school if he leaves.

    Auburn Fires Bryan Harsin

Boise has done poorly without him. Maybe a reunion should happen? Just a $25M career detour for him ($15M buyout + $5M per year for 2 years).

    Auburn Fires Bryan Harsin

Since Liberty is private I don‘t believe the buyout is public. But there’s no way a buyout of a coach to the school is $20M. Maybe a couple of million, if that.

    New University President?

Exactly. I think people who didn’t go to college have a weird opinion of what the vast, vast majority of it is. I wish my Physics classes had some politics injected trying to indoctrinate me, I may have paid more attention.

Looks like Todd Bates is following Venebles to OU!

Clemson Pravda. Eason has an admirable NFL background, but until that translates to proven success at the college level, including recruiting, I think I’d prefer to have a proven winner like Bates. Seems like OU knows this.

Looks like Todd Bates is following Venebles to OU!

No clue. I‘m pleased to admit I don’t follow tater players that closely. But, i did see this: Bates, 38, also served as Clemson’s assistant coach and has become known as an elite recruiter and developer of young talent. He was named the Rivals’ Recruiter of the Year in 2019 as a key...

Looks like Todd Bates is following Venebles to OU!

Why would this be an upgrade? Who has had better DLs during their respective tenures? To me the answer is clearly Bates.

Forbes, the WF Basketball Coach, is doing very well for the Deacons.

Wake‘s AD is the guy Tennessee ran off after he tried to hire Greg Schiano to replace Butch Jones. Phat Phil got the gig and arguably made a worse choice in Pruitt than John Currie had made with Schiano. Currie inherited Clawson but does get a gold star for the Forbes hire.

    College Cup

None. But we played for one in 1993. Iwould prefer the SEC sponsor the world‘s most popular sport as it would help our program. But, Marshall won it all last year and they are in CUSA just like us so it can be done.

    College Cup

Gamecocks finished 5-9-2 this year. Not surprising given it was Year 1 for our new coach. We’ve been an elite program before. Hopefully Coach Annan can get us back to that level.

Why didn’t Tony Elliott take the Tennessee job a year ago?

Give it a couple years. They liked Butch Jones at one point too. Tennessee is fast approaching a quarter century since being relevant. And during their last two very recent coaching searches, they were turned down by enough coaches to field a baseball team.

    Mike Leach talking my language

Hypocrite. It was early December of 1999 when Bob Stoops bounded into the locker room, pumped that in his first year as Oklahoma's coach the Sooners had finished 7-4 and earned a trip to the Independence Bowl. He was ready to go to work, but his players weren't. They were shaken because their...

OT: I hate NC got the $1.6 billion Toyota plant. SC needs to be more aggressive in these matters.***

Is Toyota exporting these cars they will make in NC or will they be just for the North American market?

    What a bunch of wussies!!!

Yea, but before the season those games were tossups, at best. And the UF and Auburn wins were not anticipated. 6 wins exceeded my expectations by 2. Wasn’t always pretty or pleasing how we got there, but I‘m willing to take it as a hopeful sign for the future. As a Gamecock fan, I have a...

    How demoralizing must it be....

Maybe, but I would bet a substantial amount of money that Saban with a month to prepare vs. Smart will have even a greater advantage in preparation/strategy than he did yesterday.
