This is truly sad. It absolutely is the end of amateur athletics.
The good news is it’s never helped them. They’ve always been a do way less with way more type program.

It is going to be even harder for us to compete with the deep pocket schools and their supporters starting to throw money around.
I have never seen anything more ridiculous and down right queer than the A&M YELL Camp or group or whatever that thing is supposed to be.
Oil money, we have no comprehension.
I agree with some well managed planning, etc it can be done. But, the sad part is we have never done anything too smart when it comes to athletics.
I hope these schools offer one more benefit for playing for them (in addition to the many already).
Coach and mentor these kids with this newfound money. Without it what could go wrong? Teens with cash in their pockets. Many who have never had it.

Yeah the tiny window of hope for a championship caliber program here is done.
Yes, gone with the wind, and as Rhett Butler said: "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn." At least that's the way it makes one feel since the goal posts, no the entire field, has been moved on us again.
It's amazing how some of our fans thought this was a good idea. The best we can hope for is that it drags Clemson down it's the pits of mediocrity with us.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Texas, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame will have payrolls much larger than anyone else. If there is a silver lining to all of this, it is that it is no longer a foregone conclusion that Clemson will have top 5 classes.
Them playing in the ACC will always have success now that Miami, VT, and FSU are irrelevant. For us, all we can do is watch our fan base slowly disappear on game days.
Well for starters we can't continue to have an exclusive contract with UA for all our athletic gear. It could limit who will sign with us to those who get paid by UA.
It is the end of an era in college athletics.

But in no way can the NCAA be called amateur athletics. The NCAA has been all about the money for at least 50 years.
What it has been about is how to divvy up the money. The NCAA pigheadedly decided to try and cut the player out of the equation no matter what. They lost. And in losing they have lost all control of the golden goose.
It is now a free for all bar brawl. If any rules get made they will be reactionary and made up on the fly. The short sighted greed of the NCAAA to not partner with athletes has burned down their own house.
But the Phoenix of college athletics will arise out of the ashes. I’m just not sure I will like it’s new form
No partnership with athletes would have made any difference. Probably would have gotten right to where we are now even faster. In today's society, people want what they want, and they don't stop until they get everything they want. It will get worse than any of us think right now. Money will dominate the sport. Zero chance for us to ever win any type of title now. And, eventually, when fans realize the game is rigged to the point that there is no chance, it will destroy the interest in the sport.
