If, for example, the extra point were made more difficult, that would be the result of an evolution in the game: in bygone eras, extra points were anything but guaranteed, but with the improvements in kicking, artificial surfaces, and the like, they are virtual "gimmes" now. The game slowly changes, I do not necessarily agree with this particular rule, but it is an attempt at changing a relatively pointless extra point paly into something more relevant.
