Anyone Else Think Stroman Should Start?

I know he didn't play tonight, but the last couple of times he's been out there he has played really well. In my opinion, he's been far superior to Johnson. He can really pick a pass and is quicker getting to the rim when he sees a crease. If nothing else, he turns it over less than Johnson. I think he's earned a start (though maybe not against UK, that might crush his confidence). What say ye?

I certainly think he has more potential... and with where we are right now I think that means he should start.

Agree..

I think Ty deserves told the starting role. He is the Sr who has given up a lot to try to help this team (suffered through injuries, transferred in from a better program, always gives good effort...)

that said, Storman is the best ball handler we have on the team and I would like to see him get a lot more PT. He is smooth with the ball in his hand, super quick, starting to gain confidence and FINISH when he drives the lane... If he can put together a better pull up J and improve his 3 point shooting, this kid could be a real weapon for us, and I see the potential for him to be that kind of weapon as soon as next season. I expect him to be the starter then, adding a guy like Dozier to the group we are returning and the other big man- Silva-, getting Blanton healthy... We could really be a decent team next year!

These guys were were close enough in so many games we wound up losing this year- just one or two plays (PLAYERS) away from having an NCAA tournament team THIS YEAR. we will have those players next year, and the guys we have will be more experienced and HOPEFULLY better...

I would disagree...

I like Stroman's energy and ball handling/passing skills and think he is going to be a very good player.

That being said, he is going to HAVE to improve his shooting. I'm not sure that is going to happen.

He also releases the ball below his head, like a junior high school kid that can't get the ball to the rim... which is probably where it started (If we'd keep the youngsters on lower rims, use smaller balls, or don't let them shoot threes till they are older and stronger they would not end up with bad habits).

This is not the reason he is a poor shooter, but with the speed of the college game it is difficult to get a shot off from that position.

That being said, he IS a poor shooter on top of that. He shoots 12% from 3 point and 27% from the field.

As far as turnovers, his A/T ratio is not terrible at 1.68. I like to see it at least 2.0, which is exactly what Ty Johnson's is.

The biggest difference, though, and the reason Ty should stay our point guard is at the free throw line. A good point guard hasto be able to make free throws. Ty leads the team at 85%, while Stroman struggles at 61%.

Just my thoughts...
