Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead joins Penn State staff as offensive coordinator

Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead has joined the Penn State staff as offensive coordinator, as James Franklin looks to improve that side of the ball.
Moorhead spent the last four years at Fordham. He inherited a team that went 1-10 and posted a 38-13 record in his four seasons.
“He has distinguished himself as a head coach who made a dramatic impact at Fordham University,” Franklin said in a release. “His approach and vision offensively is very similar to ours: hard-nosed, blue collar and explosive. We completed an exhaustive search of many candidates and his name kept rising to the top.”
The Rams were regularly one of the highest scoring teams in FCS under Moorhead, including ninth in 2015 at 36.8 points per game. Fordham went 6-5 in Moorhead’s first season, followed by 12-2, 11-3 and 9-3 this season. The Rams reached the playoffs in each of the past three years.
Moorhead previously coached at UConn from 2009-11, including two years as offensive coordinator. He also coached at Akrom from 2004-08 and at Georgetown from 2000-03.
He takes over a Penn State offense that was No. 101 in scoring this year (23.7). That was a slight improvement from 20.6 points per game in 2014. Quarterbacks coach Ricky Rahne will call plays in PSU's bowl game.
“My family and I are thrilled to be coming home,” Moorhead said in a release. “It is an unbelievable opportunity to help contribute to a program with a rich tradition and promising future. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work.”
Moorhead’s departure from Fordham means there’s another FCS head coaching opening.
