Breaking down past/future JUCO impacts at USC

I recall a huge deal was made out of James Adkisson back early in the Holtz regime. Allegedly the #1 JUCO recruit in the country. Don't think he even accumulated 10 catches.

maybe not, but the one one 4th down in the MSU game was HUGE! And one helluva catch!

His shining moment.

Are you talking about the MSU game in 2000 when Eric Kimrey threw the game winning fade? If so, I thought Jermale Kelly caught that pass.

Nevertheless, I'm hoping that a couple of the DE's that we got this year end up like Jasper Brinkley.

yes, Kelly caught the Fade. but, before that:

Before leaving with his injury, Petty helped put the Gamecocks
in position by completing a 35-yard pass to James Adkisson that
moved the ball to the Mississippi State 25.

Since the subject of JUCOs' success on-the-field comes up every time we sign one, perhaps this history of their performances should have a file of its own under the Recruitment drop down. Just a suggestion.

When was your shining moment on an athletic field Rod? What do you do beside post insidious remarks about those who have shining moments on their resume?

With the exception of Jasper Brinkley, did any of these guys make it to the NFL? (I think maybe Watkins and/or Jerideu made teams, but I don't know).

Seems like the message between the lines is that, although these guys help fill holes, they have only moderate success. "Instant Impact" makes me think more about someone who is a difference maker.

Very impressive, I totally forgot about that play!

surprisingly enough (to me at least) I found in making sure I wasn't misremembering about Adkisson, that he played a couple years in the League... or at least a couple games over a couple years.

not sure of others.... but Duce Staley seemed to do rather well after JUCO and then here...

Yes, and wasn't he the one in the Auburn game at Columbia in that period who was wide open and would have scored a touchdown that would probably have won the game, but he dropped it?

Yep......then years later, same exact thing happened with Jared Cook.

I think this JUCO class might be different and contribute. When a JUCO receiver is recruited it all depends on how much the ball is thrown his way as to how much he contributes sometimes. We got some pretty good DE who have matured at the JUCO level and could make a difference. The secondary needed some JUCO help too.

And he alligator-armed a sure TD pass in Tuscaloosa that would have given us the lead. i nearly cried watching that in the stands.
