** Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Blackman three-star running back Master Teague has seen his recruitment pick up in the last month or so, but I continue to hear that South Carolina is in the best position to land him.
Teague, who is one of South Carolina's top targets, landed an offer from Auburn recently, and visited Clemson, who is showing him increased interest but has not yet offered. Ohio State has not yet offered either, but the Buckeyes would pose a threat to the Gamecocks if they were to offer.
Tennessee, which has offered, may be another program to watch for Teague, who also recently added offers from Virginia, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Purdue.
** Gaffney (S.C.) three-star wide receiver Dennis Smith's recent Clemson offer was expected to put the Tigers very much in the mix, and possibly in the lead for him. From what I've gathered, the Tigers are certainly a factor too, but Smith is still very much open in the process and at this point doesn't have a leader publicly or behind the scenes. The Gamecocks are still very much in play here.
South Carolina, Clemson and Duke are all still very much in play here. The Gamecocks had a huge lead prior to the Clemson offer going out. The Clemson offer is one he's always coveted. And Smith feels like Duke is making him the biggest priority out of the schools recruiting him. There's a lot of indecision there right now for Smith, who will visit UNC, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Duke in the coming weeks.
Carolina will, of course, look to get him back to campus again soon too, although he just recently visited for junior day. The main school that hasn't offered that could completely shift his recruitment is Florida State, which would be a major factor with an offer.
** Saluda (S.C.) three-star defensive tackle Kelijiha Brown has talked about making a decision soon in order to get it out of the way. While the general thought has been that Brown would ultimately end up at South Carolina, I can't completely rule out Wake Forest here either. The Demon Deacons have done a good job with Brown and were in the lead prior to the latest South Carolina junior day. At this point, I believe Brown is legitimately torn between the two.
** Chris spoke on this a bit in a recent Insider Report, but I'm also hearing plenty to point to the idea that former T.L. Hanna four-star defensive end and Clemson legacy Stephon Wynn is far more open to South Carolina than was once believed and not a lock to follow in his father's footsteps.
Despite his decision to transfer to IMG Academy, the info I'm getting points to Wynn wanting to be back in the state of South Carolina for his college ball. I don't expect him to venture far from home. There are several things that have opened the door for Carolina here, including the defensive line coach changes as Clemson and the personal recruiting job that Will Muschamp and Lance Thompson have done here.
** South Carolina offered Cornelius (N.C.) Davidson Day class of 2019 wide receiver Nolan Groulx while he was on a visit to the school today. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder already also has offers from N.C. State, Wake Forest, West Virginia, James Madison and Elon. I plan to talk with Nolan himself soon, but I've been told that the visit went very well and that the location, in particular, is a major factor here that plays in South Carolina's favor. Groulx was described to me as a big-time athlete and electric with the ball in his hands.
** Rock Hill (S.C.) class of 2020 ATH Antonio Barber may be the next big thing from Football City, USA and he's starting to see his recruitment pick up. Alabama recently reached out to Barber about coming to camp and expressed their interest in him. Iowa State is probably the closest to offering first. South Carolina is also involved here and would be considered Barber's dream school. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder is still young, but I've seen him enough in camp settings and hear from enough people I trust to believe that he's a name to remember in the future.
