With South Carolina on a bye this week, the Gamecock coaches have hit the road recruiting, while giving the current football players some much-needed time off this weekend after a long eight-week grind combined with the month of preseason practiced before it.
The football team practiced on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday followed by a morning lift on Thursday before they were dismissed for the weekend giving them the opportunity to head home and see their families if they wish.
This week will feature a huge focus on recruiting and it won't be a surprise to see some new offers go out as well, considering the Gamecocks will be dropping in on high school head coaches and gathering info about their prospects, evaluating some games in person, and also will have some time to re-evaluate film and have Shane Beamer sign off on offers.
** Head coach Shane Beamer hit the road recruiting for the first time on Monday and as Chris reported earlier this week was set to check in on two highly regarded class of 2023 targets in four-star defensive linemen Vic Burley and Zavion Hardy.
Beamer was joined on those visits by defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey who has done a fantastic job getting those guys on campus and keeping Carolina involved.
On Thursday, Beamer and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield were set to drop by the schools of in-state targets 2024 QB Jadyn Davis (that visit has already taken place this morning), 2023 DL Xzavier McLeod and 2024 QB Jayden Bradford.
Beamer will be busy on Friday when he checks in on South Carolina QB commit Braden Davis in Delaware, then four-star EDGE target Jaishawn Barham in Maryland, and then is back in South Carolina Friday night to watch the game at Hilton Head HS, home of four-star Notre Dame LB commit Jaylen Sneed.
Beamer will be joined in Delaware by Satterfield who will hang back and watch Davis' game that night. He will be joined in Baltimore by Mike Peterson who will stay and watch Barham's game. And defensive coordinator Clayton White will meet Beamer in Hilton Head to watch Sneed.
** Defensive coordinator Clayton White has already been by Lake City, Fla's Columbia High earlier today (Thursday) which is the home to offered targets 2023 DB Amare Ferrell, 2023 LB Jaden Robinson and 2023 WR Tray Tolliver.
White is also scheduled to drop by and see 2023 LB Grayson Howard in Florida as well as stops at Trinity Christian and Riverside before getting back to South Carolina and meeting Beamer at Hilton Head tomorrow.
** South Carolina offensive line coach Greg Adkins is set to drop in on two priority in-state underclassmen in 2023 four-star OL Monroe Freeling and 2024 four-star OL Kam Pringle today.
On Friday Adkins will be in Pennsylvania where he'll drop by several schools before watching four-star OL commit Ryan Brubaker play that night.
** Tight ends coach Erik Kimrey is set to drop in on his Georgia territory today including Oconee County HS, which is the home to 2023 ATH target Whit Weeks, who has an offer from the Gamecocks.
He is also set to drop in on the high school of 2022 South Carolina OL commit Cason Henry.
On Friday, Kimrey will watch quite an interesting matchup as Lambert HS and OL commit Grayson Mains take on West Forsyth, the home to none other than tight end Oscar Delp.
** Wide receivers coach Justin Stepp has already dropped by Myers Park HS in Charlotte today and is scheduled to drop in on wide receiver commit Kylic Horton today as well.
Stepp also dropped in on 2024 target Jack Larsen, who is a major target for Kimrey at tight end.
On Friday, Stepp will see several schools in his area and will check up on recent offeree, class of 2024 WR Mazeo Bennett, who has quickly emerged as a priority target at receiver.
Stepp is scheduled to watch class of 2023 four-star WR Christian Hamilton play on Friday night.
** Running backs coach Montario Hardesty will see several running back targets, first in Virginia and then in Georgia this week.
Today Hardesty is dropping by the high school of four-star Ramon Brown, who the Gamecocks of course had in on an official visit earlier this year but ultimately chose Penn State. Then he'll go by the high school of 2023 three-star RB Ike Daniels, who we told you this summer has high interest in the Gamecocks and has emerged as a priority target as well.
Hardy will be in Georgia on Friday seeing several schools before watching the game of 2023 RB target Jaylen Johnson.
** Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray is in Virginia today with a primary stop at Benedictine HS in Richmond, home to class of 2023 four-star DL target Joel Starlings.
Gray will then fly to Florida and among his stops there will be to see commitments, DB Jyvonte McClendon and EDGE Bryan Thomas Jr.
** Defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey is set to see two Carolina commits in Florida today in DL Jamal Whyce and DB Anthony Rose.
On Friday Lindsey will drop in on the high schools of big-time 2024 DL recruit Hevin Brown-Shuler, 2024 four-star WR Zion Ragins and 2023 DE T.J. Searcy. He'll watch Carolina DL commit Felix Hixon play later that night.
** EDGE coach Mike Peterson is set to spend the two recruiting days in the DMV area seeing multiple high schools. He'll check in on Gonzaga College, Archbischip Carroll, St. John's College and Our Lady Good Counsel today.
Then he'll see Dematha tomorrow before heading to Barham's game with Beamer.
** Special teams coordinator Pete Lembo is set to hit Pennsylvania both day and he'll drop in on at least five high schools today.
On Friday he'll also drop in on OL commit Ryan Brubaker (along with Adkins) and then will watch four-star DB commit Keenan Nelson play on Friday night.
