Doesn't sound like Hilinski is planning to go anywhere

And I am not sure why. Maybe he knows that whatever offense Beamer wants to run doesn't involve the QB in the run game. If it does, he is wasting his time, unless he just wants to hang around and finish school and get on with life

I am happy for us and pleasantly surprised.I feel about 99% certain that with the last coaching staff in place, he would have walked.

Why?

Honest question.

I keep seeing people stating that as fact, some posting here were actually encouraging him to leave.

When Bobo arrived, he noted (correctly) that Ryan’s mechanics were all screwed up.

Anyone who understands anything about throwing mechanics could watch film of Ryan at the start and end of last season, and see the obvious regression in his mechanics.

Some of it was obviously due to his knee and elbow injuries, some was obviously mental as he was rushing to unload the ball.

What some of you may not understand is that fixing mechanical flaws isn’t always a short term deal. Once muscle memory changes it can take time and be very difficult to get back into form.

I’d say Ryan was mature enough, and patient enough to understand that. Some of our fan base should take note.

We were basically stuck this season. Ryan wasn’t ready to play again at a high level, and to be truthful neither was Doty. The only variable Doty brought us is more of an ability to run around, he has a lot to work on with his passing skills.

In today’s game QB mechanics are overrated. Any old school coach would cringe watching Maholmes but he can deliver it when and where he wants.

Good, he led us to our only drive that resulted in points against Texas A&M if you recall. Leaving me wanting more!

I think he has a bright future but wish we would of seen him more to know for sure.

Phillip Rivers. Terrible mechanics....Spurrier would have tried to correct him, but he has proven that it works for him. It's not just the new quarterbacks, there have always been exceptions.

In general I disagree, doesn’t matter if it’s throwing a football or pitching a baseball.

Some guys can play at a high level with crappy mechanics. Most can’t. Even people who appear to have crappy mechanics still have the basic elements of good mechanics that make them successful. Philip Rivers looks awful when he throws, but he’s had a long successful career. But he’s the exception, not the rule.

Ryan had high level QB coaching when he was younger, and it showed when he first got here. You can definitely see his mechanics erode over the course of the season as he piled up injuries and started rushing.

Once that happens everything gets out of whack, leading to inconsistent play and increased risk of injury.

Honest answer: Will Muschamp and Mike Bobo have a horrific track record for developing quarterbacks. Outside of Matthew Stafford, I would be hard pressed to come up with one quality QB they coached in about 40 years of football coaching experience.

How about Aaron Murray (UGA 2009-2013) for Bobo? He's only the all-time SEC leader in passing yards by a couple thousand yards, TD's passing, and QB rating among several other categories. He lit us up a couple of games against Spurrier's best defenses. If Bobo has a passer here to average 3300 yards passing in the SEC for 4 straight years while finishing in the top 10 nationally every year, I'll gladly take that!

That would help but it wouldn't be enough.
It would be a lot, IMO. He would know that he's in for a fair competition again.

Also, there's still no guarantee that Hilinski's staying. This tweet really just means that he's being a good teammate and saying the right thing.

I like the grumpy old men who are like “but he doesn’t use the right motion.”

Also, his mechanics may just have been messed up bc they were playing him with a bum shoulder and knee.

Maybe but I think we had a better QB than Aaron Murray during that time. I seem to remember him being 1-3 vs South Carolina and in a few of those games he didn’t look very good to me.

Well, we "Lattimored" the dawgs two of those years and Ingram, Taylor and Clowney may have gotten to Murray half a dozen times in 2011. My point being that Murray is the all-time SEC passing leader .... not Manning, Spurrier or Namath .... and Bobo developed him.

I will give you that Murray was a good QB under Bobo. Being the all time passing leader does not make him in the same league as any of those other guys. It’s impressive he put up the numbers, but the best numbers does not make you the best QB.

In year one Richt called a super conservative game. Couldn’t blame him. Murray was a rookie on the road. He got blasted here in the 35-7 game.

it opens back up the competition because no one quarterback will know the system and nuances of it better than the rest. If that is what you mean by "fair", then I agree.
I hope he lets the best man win so to speak Muschamp had his starter and wouldn't not change his mind no matter what.
