How many times over the last 2 years have unarmed black men been shot by police? Curious.
This one may not count, because the guy told the officer he had a gun...
We'll never know the full numbers, especially when many are swept under the rug, planted guns/drugs, cover ups, unreported harassment, illegitimate stop and frisks, etc...even one is one too many, especially when the institution is designed to protect and serve. That goes for blacks, whites, or any other race/American. Not only is the person that was killed affected, but mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, grandfathers, grandmothers, sons, daughters, cousins, wives, girlfriends, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even entire communities are left dealing with the wake of these things. Lives on all sides are forever changed. Better training may be one solution, especially when most states require more training for barbers than they do for a person to walk around with a gun and badge. I understand that there are good and bad people in this world, and cops are no different. With that said, when these incidents arise there should be procedures in place that allow for full transparency and swift strict action against violators of the public's trust. If these issues are not dealt with, then you deal with the growing distrust which is happening between the government/politicians/police, etc... and we the people who provide them power.
This is something that will not change overnight, but we can't continue to ignore issues and expect them to just go away. It all starts with each one of us being aware/accountable for our own actions, and then working together as Americans to find solutions to issues that plague our country, even if a particular issue doesn't directly affect you, it may affect your neighbor, coworker, friend, etc...
