It's entitled "How to destroy a program".
In it you'll find chapters on,
*saying Dave Odom has a warchest of credibility
*giving Dave Odom unjustified contract extensions
*refusing to pay for a band at the NIT Final Four
*refusing to admit the firing of Odom and calling it a retirement
*going on the cheap and hiring a one hit wonder in Darrin Horn
*giving Darrin Horn an extension after winning zero postseason games
*allowing Horn to sabotage the program on the way out
*having Eddie Fogler help select another coach
*hiring someone on the outs at Kstate
*refusing to interview Greg Marshall twice for a job he wanted

Foreward written by: the NIT pep band

Any other chapters??

There should be a chapter on recruiting "projects" vs "talent".

Don't forget Hyman's infamous quote regarding Horn's awful 2012 team:

"People can see the light. SUBCONSCIOUSLY, if nothing else, they can see where progress is being made."

"Subconsciously" Eric? I guess Hyman was a mind reader!

Because we were such an asskicking machine pre-Hyman, what with those 0 tourney wins in forever.

National titles? NIT titles are "national titles" in the same way that O'Douls is beer.

I never understood the Odom hire from the beginning. It was a waste of years with mediocre BB. Nit titles are like kissing your sister as a famous Clemson coach once said. I was encouraged with the Horn hire and expected great things.

FM will be the savior of GC MBB. FM has defense. He just needs a few players with offense and it will be lights out.
He's the best MBB coach since FM1.

The only thing that would make this post funnier is having the editing done by Bookman. But, Beckham is close enough.

Funny, but unfortunately so true.
Eric Hyman was a terrible AD. His major mistakes were covered up by the success we had in Football (Spurrier) and Baseball (Tanner). Hyman made one good decision (Staley) but overpaid her by a lot (She was making 100K, He didn't have to pay 700K to get her. However, Staley now has proven she should be in the top 3-5 in pay nationaly.

Several different ways, and I'm not going to discuss any of them. But they are pretty solid.

What a gip!

Hey OP, with all your bitching....Will the book also say " I hired Dawn Staley"

And by the way, if Martin gets pissed and leaves to greener pastures, you can relegate gamecock basketball to intermural status.

Hyman didn't hire Spurrier. Mike McGee did. It was basically McGee's last act as an AD. Hyman started at USC in July of 2005. Spurrier was hire in November of 2004.

Beck.. beat you to it..edited before you were responding

Time stamps make no sense

yeah- I don't think that's an issue to be concerned about.

Something tells me his phone isn't ringing much in that regard.

Yep , where past "coaches of the year" come to die , i.e. Bill Foster and Eddie Fogler

Hyman's mistakes were colossal in regards to the basketball program. He kept Dave Odom for a year too long when he should have fired him after the 06-07 season. By the time he fires Odom, Marshall has already bolted for Wichita State. Even then he had a chance to keep the basketball program strong with a good hire as Odom handed over a half-decent program to the next coach with players like Devan Downey and Dominique Archie. Instead Horn is a terrible hire who runs the program into the ground. He then keeps Horn around for too long as well. I'm still hopeful that Martin will get things turned around....hiring him might end up being the only thing good Hyman did for our bball program. Jury is still out though.....hey at least we looked really good in December. Maybe February will be better.

This program has not won a ncaa tourney game in over 40 years.. the program was in dire straits long before Hyman got there

Hell, at the time of the hires, SC was lucky to get Odom and Fogler.

Its not like top coaches are lining up to coach this mess

Let's hope Hyman is equally skilled at A&m and takes down their football program when he eventually gets to replace the coach out there. Think their coach will move to NFL in not too distant future.

I think we are already intermural.
Its bad when you wish you had Dave back because you might actually have a shot at winning.
I hate to say it but I see no reason to be optimistic about our basketball program. Everything being said about giving Martin a chance was said about Dave and Horn as well

The W's aren't there yet but at least you can see some progress....That is way more than I can say about his predecessor

Frank Martin is not the issue. I kind of like him. He may or may not turn it around. The damage was done long before that.
I've been a season ticket holder for over a decade, and I've seen some bad basketball, however, we could have turned this around a number of times.

When Hyman hired Horn, there were several young coaches (not named Marshall) who were on the market. Plenty of them would have come if he didn't go on the cheap. First he was determined to hire a minority--and completely ignored every candidate who was white. Then after the minorities passed, he settled on Horn for 600K. Major foul up which eventually set Frank Martin up to fail.

McGee wasn't great, but he almost had Cremmins and Tubby. He hired Fogler who won an SEC title and sent us to 2 NCAA's. Odom got us to one and 2 NIT titles. At that point Dave fizzled, and everyone but Hyman could see it.
Oh yeah, he also hired the 2 most successful coaches in our history (Tanner and Spurrier).

His stubbornness on NOT so much as interviewing Marshall was embarrassing. His handling of Odom embarrassing. His extension to Horn was embarrassing.

I think Frank is ok, but he is paying the price for an AD that killed our basketball program.

Lol...Hyman doesn't have that kind of authority at his current job. He's a puppet. He doesn't make decisions, he only executes orders.

What an excellent post!

Never understood the Hyman bashing. From a business stand point he made some tough decisions which brought revenues into the 21st century. Stuff that had to be done and he had to be the bad guy to implement a business model that just about everyone else was doing.

THE GOOD:
If I'm not mistaken, hethe re are some of the coaches hired under his watch:
He hired Staley. No problem there. 3 straight NCAAs and team currently #1.
He hired men's golf coach - team is currenty ranked in top 10.
He hired women's golf coach - team was ranked #1 in the fall
He hired softball coach - program was floundering, and now has been to NCAAs two years in a row.
He hired men's tennis coach - program was floundering and now team has made three straight NCAA tournaments, advanced past first round for first time in a long time last year.
I think he hired the women's tennis coach before he left - team has been to two straight NCAAs
He hired the volleyball coach - program was floundering, now it's on the rise and had a winning season this year

Facilities - I'm told other A.Ds got the conversation started on a new baseball field, but nothing was ever happening. That got done under his watch. Dodie - huge recruiting tool got done under his watch. Softball stadium - done under his watch. The whole master plan which included the new Athletics building and tennis facility too. Record years in donations and fundraising.

THE BAD:
Yep. Darrin Horn didn't work out. I thought it was a good chance at the time to hire a young guy on the way up. Clearly that didn't work out. Probably held on to Odom too long, but I don't mind an AD publicly supporting his coach with positive comments. The first NIT was promising... the second one told you we weren't progressing. I have no issue with not sending the band. The price tag for that was ridiculous, but I can see why some fans didn't like it. Greg Marshall? Maybe there's a reason no other big schools have hired him. It's my understanding that was an jerk when contacted through his agent (the first time there was opening) and demanded a sum that was outrageous for what his resume was AT THAT TIME. Either way, yes, Hyman's handling of men's basketball hasn't worked out - but the basketball program has been a wreck since before Hyman got here too. Steve Newton anyone?

Overall, Hyman wasn't a warm and fuzzy guy, but I think he was the right guy at the right time. His time is gone. I like where we are now, and I like Frank Martin.

Go Gamecocks!
