Gamecock Baseball: All-21st Century Team

There are some numbers that we could've done without. Marsh, Crisp, Todd, and Celek probably shouldn't be on any "All" list. I hate to say that, and I'm sure that all of them gave great effort, save Crisp. It's just that having a list like this should be reserved for the best. There are also some other borderline guys, but I could live with them.

Also, I probably wouldn't put Crowe on there at this point. Maybe later, but he has only completed one year of competition as a freshman. I'm sure he'll end up on there, but not yet.

Personally, I think you would've had a better list if you used duplicate numbers. Limiting it that way left off some of the best players in our history.

Too many starting pitchers in there if u go with team needs. need John Taylor and lee gronkiewicz for the bullpen along with Blackwell and price that u have in there

You're probably right on all three counts. Some of those names wound up being "roster fillers," guys who were the best to wear a number that not many have worn recently. Not going with duplicate numbers honestly was just a way to break ties...I would have never finished if I hadn't had a way to eliminate certain players.

Ahhh. The luxury of being a Carolina Baseball fan.

I know you aren't talking to me, but I think a more appropriate way of doing it would be the traditional depth chart.

Go 2 or 3 deep at all of the field positions and DH. Also, include as many pitchers as you need to in order to include the greats, but at least have 3 weekend starters, 2 midweek starters, 3 middle relievers, 2 setup men, and 2 closers.

This will have a team of about 35-40 players, and you can include all of the greats with no filler.

He is just flaming you man...

people like to go off on you an Avery I think because the cereal feels like a spinoff or a secondary site or something, and you guys come to the forums like any other member would and actually engage in conversations here which leaves you open to get dirty... There are a bunch of trolls and grumpy old men here incapable of accepting anything outside of their view of what is normal. It is pretty annoying, but something we all live with around here!

I thought your list was well thought out and didn't miss any of the truly BEST players from the 21st century. There were a few guys I might have liked to have seen more because they were part of great teams or guys I just liked, but no glaring omissions,

Where they heck is Scott Wingo? You have Brison Celek in there but no Wingo, Morales, or either Dyson? Will Crowe I don't think has earned his spot yet. Pankake, P. Mooney, and Adam Mathews, and Brady Thomas seem like they probably should have a spot too.

I didn't make the comment on not visiting that site. I actually enjoy some of the write-ups on Gamecock Cereal.

Wingo, Morales, Dyson, Pankake, Mooney, Matthews, and Thomas were beaten out for spots by...

...Steven Tolleson, Matt Campbell, L.B. Dantzler, Jeff Jeffords, Reese Havens, Chad Blackwell, and David Marchbanks.

Props for the well thought out list, however Im not sure its fair to compare numbers from guys who played in the gorilla ball era to the guys who play now. For example, just imagine Christian walker playing 10 years ago with the live bat and ball. That guy would have had 30+ HR years. Also while Roth was one of the most beloved pitchers here, you have to give the Friday night starting role to Kip Bouknight. That dude was just filthy and won the Golden Spikes as a pitcher.
