I’m actually surprised. Coaches (and everyone associated with sports, even fans) are so superstitious. Being a coach where one bad season can put you on the hot seat, I wouldn’t change anything while I was on a roll. He may think he has job security - but that’s a myth for maybe anyone but Saban and that boy.

Gundy is pretty secure. It would take a Muschamp-esque multi year collapse to run him off. I don’t see that happening at Okie St.

Really? He's like a less successful Mark Richt - and eventually people get tired of the same old results. And Gundy certainly isn't putting up amazing results. He peaked a decade ago and OK State is mired in the middle of the pack of their conference. After 16 years is this just what OK State really wants for $5M a year? Third or worse in their division?

And don't forget, his main benefactor died a couple of years ago. So who is willing to pay that bill for years to come?

I guess OK State could know they will never be better than a three loss-a-year team (in a really crappy conference nonetheless) - but that kind of honest self reflection rarely happens when you have some success as they've had.

Really. Gundy is beloved in Stillwater and a great offensive mind, in an offensive league. Those folks know they stand and are in an uphill battle against OU and Texas, and yet are competitive with them year in and year out.

Outside of KU, that is actually a pretty solid league to deal with and the Pokes consistently win their fair share. Gundy has nothing to worry about, unless there is an epic collapse. I don’t see that happening under his watch. He also just stole a top recruit from OU.

Oh, and they have many more donors that give large sums.
