ZERO support for that scenario.Originally posted by cockynSC66:

I hope you are. When SOS leaves, I want coach Tanner to go out and hire a PROVEN HC THAT KNOWS HOW TO COACH FOOTBALL AND IS WILLLING TO RECRUIT HIS ASS OFF. PERIOD. Our next HC hire will be critical in order for us to at least keep up with the competition. You see what it's done for UT. I can't see Spurrier Jr. generating the kind of interest and enthusiasm like they've got going on up there. jmho.Originally posted by cockynSC66:

I see what Bitch Jones has done for UT. They were 7-6 last year... BOY, I bet their fan base was excited to have had SO MUCH BETTER OF A YEAR THAN WE DID! Oh... Wait... If not for a miraculous comeback win over us as the recipients of another monumental collapse by our worst D in decades, they wouldn't have even made a BOWL GAME. THAT is the kind of coach you want? You think Jones is why they recruited well this cycle? They ALWAYS RECRUIT WELL. It is UT! So, what you want is a national recruiting BRAND, not a coach. There is not a coach we can hire who can give us instant brand recognition comparable to a UT or someone... Except for SPURRIER. That is what he has done for us, and we are still not recruiting QUITE on par with them, but we are closer than we ever have been- BECAUSE OF SPURRIER, not in spite of him as the tar and feather crowd seems to think... It is s shame that ten years in we still have so many fans to blind to see how much better off we are today than we were before he got here...Originally posted by Cocky kebo57:I hope you are. He's approx. 44 years old. His last name is Spurrier. He isn't a head coach.
That's a little odd.
I will say- a lot of schools are looking for energetic sounding guys for head coach positions that are pretty open with the media. That's not jr.

Not sure why the hate for Jr. He developed amazing receivers here and at Oklahoma. He also had good wide outs at the NFL level. He will be a really good HC one day.

And, if you're not alone, you are in a small minority.Originally posted by cockynSC66:
I think it's worth looking at.
I can think of nothing less relevant for selecting a head coach. Please list all the children of great coaches who have become great coaches.Originally posted by cockynSC66:
He has the bloodlines.
As for Mark Dantonio, he has Michigan State at a consistently good level, but I suspect he is quite comfortable there. As reasons to pick a coach, selecting someone who played at a school is only slightly more significant than "bloodlines."Originally posted by cockynSC66:
What about Mark Dantoni? He's a former USC player and is thriving at MSU.
At first I laughed because I thought it was a funny thing to say...then I continued reading and realized you are serious. Sorry, but no.Originally posted by cockynSC66:

Exactly right. I was at school here at USC when we went 1-21. I remember the bad, and this time with spurrier has deff been the GOOD.Originally posted by Tidal Creek Cock:
Lifer you make a good point. Prior to Spurrier, we had no real brand to speak of. Now we do. I think what has so many on this board angry and flipping out is the fear that that could slip away very easily with another disappointing season. I laws very concerned going into today and sure there are some recruits I wish we could have held on to, but I like our class and I think Hoke will be a strong addition. I'm am not at all happy with 7-6 and an Independence Bowl win, but I remember all too well when that would have been considered a good season. Thanks to SOS that's not the case anymore.
