Hassani Gravett MBB(former Gamecock) triple double in the G-League

Too bad he was never that good for us
Wasn't impressed with him until his final year. Could be related to poor coaching. I wonder if some athletes kinda lazily slack off until their senior season when they try to impress for the draft. If so a coach should be able to spot that and kick his butt or kick him off of team.

I noticed that years ago when a big man for USC BB didn't really put out until his senior season when he bulked up and played a lot harder. Don't understand why a coach would put up with that. The really successful coaches don't.

So few kids are drafted after their senior year that this is not a very logical approach. The AAU system killed any real development from these kids and it takes them a while to learn how to really play as a team where many of the upperclassmen are just as talented. So, by the senior year, you're seeing a lot more maturity and development.

This. The NBA draft values potential over experience. Which is why guy like Thornwell had to sweat it out to get drafted despite being one of the best players in college basketball and other less experience players with alright stats get the benefit of the doubt. If anything purposely waiting to your senior will only hurt your chances to make it to the next level.

I'm cynical about it. I would hope no player would ever do that but it seems to me some have. Maybe the NIL and transfer portal will end most of what I see as sandbagging.

Due to Covid issues Gravett was able to start on the Orlando Magic to win with and 8/5/5 performance with 0 turnovers yesterday.

Many people just don't understand what it takes to make it in the NBA. The NBA is interested in you having at least one superior skill, whether that be shooting, the ability to be a playmaker, defense, rebounding. You have to do something that really stands out. Gravett, due to his lack of size, is not going to be superior in any of these areas except for the potential to be a playmaker. He can make it in the NBA if he continues to improve and show that he can run an offense and give your top line playmaker a break. NBA scouts look beyond college stats and accolades in assessing a player's potential on the next level. For example, Sin, was a hero for us, but P.J. was always considered the better professional prospect. Longer kid, could guard multiple positions. All P.J. had to show is that he could shoot a little bit to stick. Unfortunately, he is out with an ACL injury right now. Hopefully, he can come back stronger than ever next year.
