--With the football team back on campus starting next week, other Gamecock sports are expected to start getting on campus, although not as soon as the football team will.

The basketball team right now would be spending their summer on campus weight training and doing limited on-court work with the coaching staff. The plan right now is fluid and nothing is set in stone, but the hope is to start getting guys back on campus at the end of June or maybe early July to begin doing some weight training and skill work.

The same rules apply for who can come back, which means the Gamecocks would be able to get their two signees—Patrick Iriel and Ja'Von Benson—on campus with the rest of the team too.

Both guys have been doing some gym work this offseason and trying to stay in shape before getting into the strength program at South Carolina.

--I talked with John Butler Sr. today, getting an update on (obviously) his son John Butler Jr., who is a key target in the Gamecocks' 2021 recruiting class.

Before the pandemic started and shut down AAU circuits, the plan was for him to take some official visits and commit right around the start of his senior year. His dad said that would "not be smart" at the moment and the look is he'll take some official visits once things are lifted and make a decision after that. There's no timetable for a decision on his part.

Butler Sr. did say the Gamecocks probably reach out to them the most and there's some comfortability there. The Gamecocks are one of six schools he said are showing the most interest. The others are: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Vanderbilt and Alabama.

We'll have an even more thorough update tomorrow on Butler Jr. and his recruitment.

--Before you ask, I did see the thread about rumored staff changes on the basketball side of things. I will go ahead and say we haven't confirmed anything on any staff changes and that hasn't been something that's come up in conversations yet. I'm not saying it's not going to happen, it's just something we haven't heard lately.

I will say this: the staff of Chuck Martin, Bruce Shingler and Perry Clark have still been recruiting and Martin, Frank Martin and Shingler were reportedly on a call yesterday with Jacobi Wright. Shingler's taken the lead on that recruitment and again we've mentioned plenty the Gamecocks are in a very, very good spot with him before his announcement scheduled for roughly late June/early July.

We'll let you know more if there is any traction on staff changes. If there is, we'll update you.
