I know he was promoted when Fitzgerald went to Penn State but what is his philosophy on conditioning? I saw the comment made by NFL scout that reffered to Alshon, Clowney and now Davis all being out of shaoe when they leave and go pro. Are we to assume they dont work before combine or are we to assume our conditioning program needs tweeking? I had been told last year that they primarily wokred on "explosive" moves and for pure strength but not really conditioning. That might be dead on considering how many late game loses we had. We could not even run down or tackle a kid from Kentucky begging to come out of the game because he was exhausted. I know Spurrier said we were changing things up in that department but in what ways during winter conditioning have things changed so far? This could be as much a contributing factor as some of our position coaches. Maybe they are coaching them up but players just dont have stamina as game goes on? Just a thought?

My thoughts exactly!

Fitz was the best coach not named Spurrier that we had while he was here. His loss has made a significant difference.

Connolly started under Fitz at Harvard and came with him to SC. I think his philosophy is based off Fitz's and that's why he was promoted.

just a question I am asking since the comment was made by NFL scout. I really never paid attention to it tat much until the late game slides this year and that comment. It very well could have been this last group of players just didnt put forth the required effort. He very well may be good but just a question based on above things mentioned

I'm not making excuses for our S&C program, but it's funny how you don't see these comments being made about guys like Marcus Lattimore or Connor Shaw. It seems like some of our guys have one good year, think they are going pro and then they put it in cruise control. I don't believe it is so much the program itself.....it works if you put in the effort. The problem is I believe that some guys aren't putting in the effort. In that case it stills falls back on the coaches to motivate these guys....for these guys to regress is unacceptable. Some of these guys probably had some injury issues, but I doubt that all of them have had that problem.

To answer your question, it could have been a contributing factor in the Mizzou, UK and UT games. However I believe lack of tackling, poor defensive coaching and not running the ball more against UK might have been bigger factors. However in a close game if we had better conditioning maybe we get late stops. Still trying to figure out how our defense played so great for 3 1/2 quarters against Mizzou and then completely fell apart.....I actually thought we had turned the corner in that game.

I submit that their school work also goes on "cruise control" so that when they want to skip their senior year and go pro, they really are just getting out of school at the same time because their grades are poor. I could be wrong for most but just guessing this is the case for some of the players.

I don't think scapegoating means what you think. See, scapegoating is when you blame someone not to blame for someone else's mistakes. What we're talking about is accountability for the job he's paid for. That's the opposite of scapegoating.

I read that the current S&C coach had no coaching experience as far as being in charge is concerned. It seems as if it was just another lazy hire similar to Ward's promotion.

It sounds like Coach Joe has forgotten how to motivate his players. Why doesn't he take a week and go to the Houston Texans organization and hang out with Coach Fitz so he can be taught S&C again. It is easier for players to be motivated when there is a DJ Swearinger, Marcus Lattimore, or in Houston's case, a JJ Watt around. Those kind of leaders motivate the whole team. It's really not about the S&C Coach as much as it is lack of leadership on this team. We need to recruit some leaders for this team.

I thought that very thing when he was promoted.

Whatever (or whoever) the cause may be, it's not hard to tell that our team's overall fitness level has decreased year by year since he took over. 3-4 years ago, we had a bunch of hee-man looking guys on the team, and Clemson's fans were complaining about their players' lack of fitness and saying that our team looked like a bunch of NFL guys (fitness/build-wise). When we played them this past season, it was the exact opposite. A lot of our guys looked flabby and out of shape.
