like we swing at so many 1st pitches, we don`t even know if a pitcher is wild or not. Our walks to them have really cost us the game today. Our guys seem to swing so much we would never get that many walks.

Agree completely. We swing at so many first pitches it is absurd. And most of those swings lead to quick outs. I have watched this team play 5 or 6 games this year and have noticed this pattern. There is a total lack of plate discipline. Too much swinging at bad pitches. And way too much swinging at first pitches. Who is the hitting coach???? Do we even have a game plan as to how to approach an at bat?

Does anyone know how many first pitches have been swung at today vs plate appearances? It must be 10-15 times at least. They brought in a new pitcher in the 6th with a man on and one out. The batter swings at the first pitch and grounds into a double play. Same thing in the next inning. Man on second. One out. New pitcher comes in. Both batters he faced swing at the first pitch and the inning is over. 2 pitches, 2 outs. Absurd.

This is nothing new. It's been going on for years now. Totally frustrating how we seem to always bail out the pitcher over and over again.

The swing early in the count was a focus this weekend after the first game as they were trying to be aggressive. Doesn't matter at all when you swing, it matters the results. Be mad at what cost us the game- shitty pitching by the bullpen- not some made up fantasy about swinging early in a count being a bad thing. If they were smashing the pitches out the park, the same people would be on here saying"why haven't we been aggressive at the plate like this all year"!?

Aggressive or stupid? When you have a base runner on second and a new pitcher coming in I would suggest it is not smart for both batters to hack at the first pitch and get out. It is a better idea to let the guy throw some pitches to see if he is wild. He may walk the bases loaded or throw a wild pitch. But this doesn't have a chance to happen when you go up there hacking. Also, the more pitches you see as a hitter, the easier it is to gauge the speed and break of the ball.

I don't get it either. Somebody has to be telling them to look at the first pitch to hit. Still swinging at pitches way out of the strike zone also. It devies baseball logic.
