I, Rod Dangerfield, am giving Frank Martin 5 seasons

That is generally the accepted number, unless you have a situation like Horn after season 4.

And I'd like to add this seems to be almost 100% a talent issue... we have guys getting open looks CONSTANTLY and we don't seem to have even one player that can hit them. Our defensive scheme seems to be one of the best in the country because it is locking down good teams and with those same players who can't shoot on the other side of the court.

Since RodD and Cock-vader, say 5 years.... years it is... This team needs to start to get W's, these "Good Losses" are not going to cut it..

It may take him 6 to 8 yrs to get USC where we want to be but I believe he can do it. What other big name coach would come to USC? The USC admin fumbled the ball when they FINALLY got rid of Odom but did not make a good hire to replace him so that was what 12yrs? of wasted MBB at USC.
NIT titles mean nothing. If they did, Casper Milquetoast would have been able to recruit lights out after those titles.

5 seasons for what though? What is your goal for after 5 seasons? What is going to decide whether we stick with the guy or whether we go in a different direction at the end of season 5?

Wow that is incredibly low expectations even for us. You want to give him nearly a decade to Make the NCAA T? 64 teams make that thing a year you know.

I'm with you ReadR00ster.

These are silly comments when just throwing some number of years as acceptable time. It allows people to sound smart without any thought or logic.

The # of years means absolutely nothing. Nothing. Any good AD looks at recruiting first and foremost. Is the recruits coming in getting better or worse? If the talent continues to get better then you should stick with a coach who is building a program. If he's not getting any traction with better talent then maybe it's not a good fit. An AD will then look at development of talent and how much the players are on board with that coach. Lose the players, then the coach is likely gone.

In Martin's case, the talent coming in each year is getting better, and the players are still on board with Martin. No need to change anything.

Once the program hits solid ground then the coaching judging criteria would need to change.

5th or 6th year - maybe reach the NCAA tourney with a high seed.

Follow that up with a couple of .500 seasons or a losing season

then follow that up with a possible trip to the NCAAs again.

that's as good as it gets at South Carolina for basketball.

I am inclined to give the guy 5 years, but I want to see at least a little improvement just about every year and we better be right on the doorstep of making the NCAAT by the end of year 5. Otherwise, it's just not working out.

You are not exactly with me. I agree that timeframes aren't everything, but they do count for something. Results are eventually going to matter, whether you think the coach is good or not.
