Which ONE would you choose?

For me, it's clearly:

I agree with the sentiment in the 2nd post. But the OP is spot on. If that play is incomplete it's 4th and 10 and a stop wins the game. We go on to win the East and if we somehow had beaten Auburn would have most likely played FSU for the title.

Yep, it was that close. Emotionally, the pushoff is one I want back, but for the program, the catch by North is the one that cost us the most.

was an amazing catch. gotta give him credit for it as Christian seemed to have good coverage. Throw was placed perfectly and was a great catch. That North kid is a good WR.

For one play, I would pick that play by North as well. We win the East and I would have loved to see Clowney and Shaw against Auburn and FSU. We would have had a chance against both of those teams.

I would also mention the push-off, but I hate to waste a hypothetical chance to change one play on a bad call by the ref. That play should have never happened in the first place.

This is not really a play and it would not be at the top of the list, but it deserves some sort of honorable mention. How about adding some time back on the clock at the end of the 2011 Auburn game. We would have still had to make a play to win, but we would have had a chance to win the East. Unfortunately though, no way I see us beating LSU or Bama that year.

The play Marcus got hurt at MSU, would have love to see him healthy his whole time here.
I'm going to go with this one as well. The 2nd injury hurt more to watch because we knew that it meant the end of his career at SC and possibly his career as a player. But from a time traveler's perspective, I would change the _first_ injury. Because without that injury, perhaps the 2nd one doesn't happen either and perhaps we would have had a chance to see a healthy Marcus for 3 full seasons. The chance to go back and see Marcus Lattimore run 100% healthy for 3 years is something I wouldn't give up for any single play in Gamecock history.

I bet on the Hawks +5 against the Sixers when Dr. J was playing. He threw in a 3 pointer from mid court with 1 second left on the clock. Didn't even need to shoot it either. Cost me a bundle.

That time we ran the ball up the middle for 2 yards in 1974.

butler catch over Sanford less than a minute 2 go. we had come back from 24-zip down to take the lead.

nov 77, guess most of u then weren't even a gleam in yer dads eye

I was there...freshman...row 7 down by the flag pole. I couldn't even see the catch, just saw the reactions on and off the field. That one and the Gardner push off were the hardest ones to swallow. Of course, I'd trade either or both if we could turn back time, and have Marcus not take the hit that ended his career.

The Andrew Pinnock fumble on the goal line vs GA. It was the perfect play, and I think he would have scored easily. These were all hard to swallow. Each play came at the end of each game, and was the difference in winning vs losing.

One note on the Gardner push off. They ran the same play 2 plays before, and Dantzler under threw the pass so badly that Gardner had to hook Andre Goodman around his neck, and yank him down to keep Goodman from intercepting. That play was also right in front of the same official. The offensive interference was as obvious as the push off two plays later, but no call. Watch the video on You Tube, and you'll see Goodman (when he got up) asking the official where the flag was. Still painful to think about.

Left out one point. Had the official flagged the offensive interference on this play, the penalty yards would have backed them up enough that the push off play would not have mattered. Dantzler wouldn't have been able to throw it far enough to matter.

there was another tough loss in '77 ......to dawgs. we had the lead late in game, trying to basically run plays & lost fumble on a pitch. They scored on a very short field (inside our 25?) & won by like 1 or 2 pts.

I can't argue with any of these as being heart breaking moments. If you have been a Gamecock as long as I have, you will have that many more that occurred even earlier that have not been mentioned.

The OP is correct. That play has to be considered the most heartbreaking in Carolina football history given everything that was on the line. If it weren't for that play, we almost certainly win that game. Which would mean we would've been 11-1, SEC East Champions, and playing Auburn in Atlanta for the chance to go to the National Championship. Not one other play in Carolina history ever had so much on the line.

Leaving the ACC. Secession hurt the athletic program in many ways. Like Maryland joining the B1G a year ago, we likely could have joined the SEC in a similar manner in 1991.

My first reaction was the push off by Gardner, but someone mentioned Roche spraining his ankle, so that has to be first for me, cause if that didn't happen, we at the very least make the final four and perhaps play UCLA for the championship. Also, I would put Marcus's second injury before the Gardner push off.

Yes, but...that was one play. Just one play. Even if we had beaten UT, it wouldn't have meant we were vastly superior.

Auburn, on the other hand, went into Knoxville a couple of weeks later and won by 32 points.

Also, don't forget it took a miracle for us to beat Mizzou. Auburn put on a 40 point beatdown on the Tigers.

We were not as good as Auburn at the end of 2013. We would not have beaten them.

Even when we do have a better team than them (2011, for example), we still find a way to lose to them.

Raynard Brown's fumble against Nebraska when we were trying to run out the clock with a slim lead. Nebraska ended up scoring and we lost to a top 5 team when Osborne was there. Could have springboarded our program.

The fact Auburn beat Missouri and Tenn badly doesn't mean they would have beat us. It's all about matchups. We beat Georgia last year, Georgia crushed Clemson, certainly didn't mean we were going to beat Clemson. 2011 Auburn had no business in the world beating us, but they did. Anything can happen in one game. Changing that one play vs Tenn would at least given us a chance to win the national title. A chance is all you can ask for.

2012... We are #3 in the nation against LSU... After Connor's interception they go up by 2... We go 3 and out... Then this is the play.... 1 play 50 yard rushing td. Had we held them to a fg there I think we win this game, and also not fall flat and get destroyed by a bad Florida team next week. We go undefeated this year had that run not succeeded. This was the year we destroyed georgia who almost beat bama. Not to mention Notre dame was easy pickings that year in the Bcscg

1977 for me too. Our kids had jumped up on the bench and pulled up their jerseys to show their tshirts with "No Cigar Today"printed on them. Then that pass and catch was an emotional low( in our stadium) for our fans and players and coaches. It still stings as bad as any I remember.
