this season was not very good because we lost so many good players and did not replace them with real good players.

I thought our recruiting class for this season was considered pretty good.

Is Tommy spinning or is there validity to his claim?

I feel that we have good players that have put too much pressure on themselves. I think they just need to play loose and not worry about the history of Carolina baseball. This team has plenty of talent and they show it at times. Baseball is different than other sports. Parity usually stands out more when it comes to baseball. Who would have ever thought that Dallas Baptist would have the #1 RPI in the country. I think this team lost some close games that hurt their confidence. If the ball bounces different in about 7 or 8 games, this team is sitting at 37-13 and 16-9 in the conference. The guys are learning on the job and they will be better for it. This team will get better.

My vote is that he is spinning...

"Thought" they were good and ACTUALLY being good are two different things. Two years in a row our recruiting classes have been major failures. It's good to hear someone from our side finally say the truth as much as some may not want to hear it.

Our outfield is, by our recent standards, is weak. Catcher is weak relative to Greiner. After Crowe went down we have one very good starter. Bullpen is the weakest it's been in awhile. Pinch hitters....weak. So, yes TM is spot on. We lost some very good players but we replaced them with weaker players. The same thing that has been plaguing our football team is now happening to the baseball team. Although I thought the baseball team has been ranked very high in the recruiting rankings.

This team has not been well coached all season. We may not be as talented as some past years but don't talk yourself into believing there is not enough talent on this team to host a regional

As I said two years ago........coaching staff lacks ability to identify quality SEC level talent..

Of course, the board know-it-all kept screaming high recruiting rankings as if every school can not find a service which claims that their P\C\3B is the best one in the country.

But keep on and on...

I think the results speak for themselves, but there are plenty of guys on here that will remind anyone that our recruiting classes the past couple of years were considered to be very good, so how do good prospects play so lousy???

There is so much that goes into putting a team together that is built to compete at the highest level an entire season with any opponent they will face . Mental Attitude. Tanner used to say that he loved baseball players that played football because they were so tough mentally. Physically . Wether it's just in the weight room or telling Westmoreland or Blake Cooper that they needed to get in better shape before the season because they may need to pitch a lot of innings. Technique. Coaching hitters, pitchers, or defense. Sending players to the cape cod or other summer leagues with an idea of certain things they are expected to work on and get better at. Strategy. Knowing when to bunt , hit and run, steal a base, turn two from home to first, defensive positioning etc. Personnel. Identifying who the leaders are and how the pieces fit together. Talent is part of it but I think that baseball is a great sport because talent only goes so far , the rest has to be coached and coaxed out of them

And your credentials compared to Tommy's are what? Just saying.
I don't claim to have the credentials that Tommy has, I did not play at the level he did and I do not have the access to the team that he does. I'm just a guy that loves the game, played at the high school level, spent several years coaching kids into the high school level and has access to a opinion based message board. I do wonder however ,how much of his comment about blaming the recent slide on lack of good players has to do with his relationship with Holbrook
