With the public commitment of Woodbridge (Va.) Freedom three-star OL Vershon Lee on Tuesday evening South Carolina adds its fifth, and likely final, offensive lineman to its 2020 class.
Lee actually decided on South Carolina two weekends ago when he was on his official visit to the school, but followed through on his word to official visit Pitt before announcing his decision yesterday.
Give a major assist to freshman offensive lineman Jakai Moore who hosted Lee on his official visit and pointed out the positives of the program while also warning him that he'd have to come in ready to work and be pushed, something that Lee wanted to find in a program. Moore has a great personality and the two already knew each other, so just having someone who is from the same area on campus was big for Lee's comfort level with South Carolina.
As I mentioned previously, Lee's mom in particular was blown away on the official visit with everything that the program has to offer, which always helps. Lee also liked that he got the chance to meet with a professor from his planned major, mass communications.
As a prospect the word that comes to mind with Lee is "versatility." Lee is listed at 6-foot-4, 285-pounds, but is probably just shy of that in height and maybe a bit heavier than that in weight. He's a long-armed kid, though, with good foot quickness and athleticism. Lee is listed as an offensive tackle on Rivals, but I'd profile him as someone who could play any of the three spots at the next level, but probably ends up as an athletic guard tight, depending on his size and strength gains.
With the 2020 class of offensive linemen now complete (assuming Issiah Walker sticks), offensive line coach Eric Wolford once again brings in a large class that's heavy on athleticism and versatility.
