Recruiting Tidbits

With Marcus Lattimore planning to make his decision on or close to signing day, I can’t envision a scenario where Irmo (S.C.) running back Mustafa Greene ends up at Carolina. Any other year and Greene would be a big priority for the Gamecocks, but there is just no way to push for Greene and still expect to land Lattimore.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles offensive lineman Brent Benedict is one of the nation’s best at his position and a big priority for Carolina. I hear Florida and Georgia are the teams to beat as of today, but he’s expected to visit Columbia this spring/summer. I expect Eric Wolford to make a big effort to impress Benedict even though he’s not the primary recruiter for the Jacksonville area.

Raleigh (N.C.) Southeast Raleigh linebacker Kendall Moore has several offers to his credit, including one from South Carolina, and I was told he’s attracted to the SEC. He’s obviously in the middle of ACC Country, but a source told me he likes what the Gamecocks have to offer.

I heard G.A. Mangus plans to make a run at some players in the Northeast, particularly the state of Pennsylvania, in this class. His in-laws are from the Media, Pa., area and Mangus has been recruiting that state for 10+ years, so he has some contacts to work with up there.
