Recruiting tidbits
Greenwood (S.C.) 2010 defensive tackle and Rivals250 watch list member Kelcy Quarles will make his announcement later today at his school. He has offers from South Carolina and North Carolina. His father, Buddy, played for the Gamecocks and Kelcy has made it no secret that he has always wanted to be a Gamecock.
Despite last night’s commitment of Greenwood (S.C.) safety D.J. Swearinger, I still expect Carolina to continue their pursuit of Daytona Beach (Fla.) Seabreeze safety Jonathan Scott, and I like their chances to land him. He’s expected to announce sometime next month.
I still feel very good about Carolina’s chances with Tampa (Fla.) Gaither four-star running back Jarvis Giles.
Offensive lineman Johnnie Farms de-committed from South Carolina and committed to North Carolina over the weekend. Someone close to him is calling the shots and pushed him towards the Tar Heels. The Gamecock staff is shocked and still pushing for him to take an official visit to Columbia before making a final decision. It’s too soon to know what other linemen they may turn to if they can’t get Farms back in the fold.
St. Matthews (S.C.) four-star wide receiver and Southern Cal commitment Alshon Jeffrey has set an official visit with the Trojans for this weekend. It will be very interesting to see what he says once he returns home. Obviously Pete Carroll and his staff hope to convince the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder officially end the process and not take any other visits. It’s also possible Jeffrey could de-commit if he realizes it’s just not practical to go that far from home for the next four to five years.
Team Information
The team will resume their preparations for Clemson later today now that the players have reported back from having the weekend off.
