Recruiting tidbits

Carolina has now officially offered Coffeyville (Kan.) four-star offensive lineman James Carpenter. He has set an official visit for the weekend of the Arkansas game. Alabama has recently gotten involved, but they have not offered yet. If they do, they will be a big factor. As things stand today, the Gamecocks are in a good position with him.

In talking to Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough running back Lindsey Lamar, I got the feeling he is a player Carolina can land once they get him on campus. Wake Forest is the only school he's visited thus far and currently lead, but the Gamecocks jumped all the way to second on his list the minute they offered. Once he's had a chance to get to know running backs coach Robert Gillespie and understand how he'll be utilized in Carolina's offense, I like the chances of him ending up in Columbia.

I am hearing very good things about the way St. Stephens (S.C.) Timberland three-star defensive end and Carolina commitment Aldrick Fordham is playing this year. He has taken his game to a different level and has proven nearly unstoppable off the edge. I am working on gathering senior film on him, and if it's as impressive as I've heard, I could see him making a sizeable jump in the player rankings.

Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford 2010 athlete Keenan Allen picked up a Carolina offer recently and attended the LSU game last weekend. I hear he had a good time and hope to reach him soon for an interview.

Another 2010 prospect to keep an eye on is West Palm Beach (Dwyer) linebacker Gerald Christian. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder already has offers from Carolina, Georgia, Boston College, Wisconsin, USF and others.

Team Information

Offensive lineman Jamon Meredith and running back Eric Baker should return to practice this week and be ready for the Tennessee game.
