South Carolina was set to host a key official visitor this weekend in the form of Alabama DB commitment Jahquez Robinson, but plans have changed on that front.

Alabama has been battling to keep Robinson in its 2020 class, but this move does not appear to be connected to the Crimson Tide's efforts on that front. Florida is hosting its Friday Night Lights camp this weekend, and Robinson now expected to make an unofficial visit to Gainesville for that event. The Gators had a lot of traction with Robinson back in the spring, while the Gamecocks picked up some momentum in the last few weeks.

We can tell you that Robinson has been in communication with the USC staff about his plans, and it's noteworthy that it was Robinson's idea in the first place to make his visit this weekend originally, right after the recruiting dead period ended. As we alluded to on The Insiders Forum yesterday, a good argument could be made that it would be a positive for USC to get Robinson in on an official later in the process, closer to when he wants to finalize things in December.

As long as Robinson continues the process and follows through eventually with a return visit to Columbia, South Carolina's still heavily in the mix.

*** Just as a reminder on some previously reported guys: USC is expecting some visitors in town beginning on Thursday. There could be more, and we'll pass those along to our subscribers once we have confirmation.

*** Tennessee defensive lineman Derrell Bailey will be visiting campus on Thursday. He told GamecockCentral.com not long ago that he's been communicating frequently with defensive line coach John Scott Jr.

*** Lake Forest (Illinois) punter Kai Kroeger is expected to visit on July 30; he picked up an offer from the Gamecocks after Coleman Hutzler's specialists camp last month.

Kroeger, who also plays quarterback for his high school team, is eyeing making a decision before his senior season. His two previous visits to Columbia have been with his father in tow, and this time his mother will be joining.

If all goes well, one could guess which direction this may be heading.

The talented specialist recently received the Sam Foltz Award from Kohl's Kicking, which is presented to a student-athlete who's been exemplary on and off the field. It's named after the late Nebraska punter who passed away in a car accident.

*** We've documented that South Carolina is still mulling a third wide receiver take in the 2020 class, but the staff did like the performance of Georgia wideout Rico Powers in camp this summer. He turned in a workout that was impressive and certainly kept himself on the staff's board with it.

Auburn, Georgia, Nebraska, Oregon, and South Carolina all made a previously released top five from Powers, with him later telling us that NC State would have made it, had the Wolfpack's offer been extended at that time. We don't believe Georgia is a big factor; NC State does seem to be. South Carolina's a program to watch for sure, should USC opt to push down the stretch.

Powers told us this week that he's looking to set up some official visits for the fall at some point soon.

*** USC extended an offer on Monday night to Tennessee product Adonai Mitchell, who was one of many talented prospects on hand with his seven-on-seven squad in Columbia this summer at USC"s passing camp.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder also carries offers from Kentucky and Tennessee.

*** When Camden County (Georgia) rolled through for two days of USC's camp last summer, a few prospects of interest were in tow. 2021 offensive lineman Micah Morris hung out on campus for a couple days, but Shawn Hardy (2021 WR) and Jamie Felix (2022 RB) participated in the seven-on-seven passing camp.

Felix visited Ole Miss, Georgia, and South Carolina over the summer and told GamecockCentral.com that he really enjoyed Ole Miss and South Carolina.

He's looking to play two sports in college and has been asking college coaching staffs if they would give the OK to play both at the next level. Alabama recently dispensed Felix his second offer on the diamond.
