*** For those that may have missed it, September 1 marked the first opportunity for the Gamecock football staff to begin sending out social media messages and text messages to junior (2022) prospects.

Collyn Taylor put together a list on Tuesday of many of the prospects that publicly confirmed that South Carolina had reached out to them. You can check out that story right here.

*** One of those prospects was Jacob Hood, a massive 6-foot-8, 350-pounder out of Nashville who already carries an offer from the Gamecocks.

GamecockCentral.com caught up briefly with Hood on Tuesday night, once his phone (somewhat) settled from a flurry of activity.

“I love the area and the love that is shown to the players. I was thrilled about the offer,” he told us.

*** There’s a new name to write down going forward in the 2022 class from the Palmetto State, and that’s South Aiken’s Demaurion Ginn.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder played last season at Barnwell and had a productive season. He’s a hybrid type who can cover or rush off the edge, and South Carolina and Ole Miss have shown early interest here.

The Gamecock staff sent several social media “edits” to Ginn on Tuesday.

*** Carolina is also showing interest in an intriguing prospect from Florida in Ja’veon Mobley, who’s a 6-foot-7, 240-pounder.

He’s yet to capture his first Power 5 offer, but plenty of programs are legitimately intrigued. Mobley has played football all his life and added hoops to his resume a few years ago.

This is the type of prospect who would have likely benefited significantly from a full summer camp slate on campuses. Look for the interest to pick up this football season.

*** At one point before the board shifted, one of Carolina’s targets for the 2021 class was a Canadian native who transferred to Clearwater International in Florida; running Brendon Barrow recently committed to Stanford.

The program has another Canadian prospect – this one from the 2022 class – that’s drawn an offer and significant interest from the Gamecock staff in Edwin Wilson Tara Kolenge. Carolina actually was one of the earliest major programs to jump in.

“It’s super huge and big for me,” Kolenge told GamecockCentral.com. “It’s also my first SEC offer, so it means a lot.”

Kolenge was among the large group of prospects to hear via social media from the Gamecock staff once the calendar turned to September 1. While there’s a ways to go in this one, he has some early interest.

*** As the staff searches in the 2022 class for talent in the secondary, one name that’s worth monitoring heavily is Florida’s Devin Moore, who carries offers from Florida, FSU, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford, and others.

Moore has already worked on forging a relationship with defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, and made note of the social media attention that the Gamecock staff gave him on Tuesday.

In speaking briefly with Moore on Tuesday night, he credited the South Carolina staff for showing plenty of love.

*** There are several running backs to watch in the ’22 class as well, but one we are keeping a close eye on is Atlanta’s Damari Alston out of Woodward Academy.

The four-star prospect carries an impressive offer list, but made no mistake of the fact that South Carolina is a school to watch for him

“They have been one of the schools recruiting me the hardest,” Alston said. “I love it.”
