There’s no doubt that South Carolina’s Week 2 clash with Georgia is shaping up to be a significant recruiting weekend for the Gamecock staff.
Of course, we’ll have a more complete visitor list closer to the game’s date, once the list of visitors actually becomes clearer. We already know that the Gamecocks are set to host Florida offensive lineman Darius Washington on an official visit that weekend and there could be other 2019 targets on hand as well.
One remaining senior target that is planning on being there? Georgia’s Jammie Robinson, who had a big first outing for his new school in Lee County last Friday.
South Carolina remains in the best shape for the four-star performer, with a decision timeline that’s still not quite clear as of this timeline.
We have already learned of a substantial possible visitor from the 2020 class as well. Ellaville (Georgia) Schley County defensive lineman Zykeivous Walker is 6-foot-4, 257 pounds and sported freakish measurable at the Rivals Three Stripe Camp stop in Georgia this season. South Carolina offered very early and is high on Walker’s abilities and upside. Ranked number 74 nationally in his class, Walker’s a strong possibility to take in the big matchup in Columbia.
Another Peach State standout is set to take in the contest alongside his family in Denmark’s Ze’Vian Capers. The 6-foot-4 wideout worked out for the USC staff in Columbia over the summer and earned an offer after testing and going through positional drills and one-one-ones. Capers is actually planning on seeing USC twice this season in person; he’ll visit for the Texas A&M game as well. Clemson is also a substantial early factor here.
Four-star defensive tackle Jaquaze Sorrells has been slated to announce his choice on August 27, but I’m told there have at least been some rumblings behind the scenes that he could put off that decision.
It will be interesting to see what Sorrells does on that front; as we have mentioned, August 27 has been a date important to him. It’s the birthday of a late uncle to whom he was quite close, like a father figure to him. The four main programs that have been involved with Sorrells are Alabama, FSU, Oregon, and South Carolina. The latest information I’ve had seemed to point in the direction of South Carolina feeling pretty positively about its chances.
There is still plenty of mystery surrounding Alabama cornerback Jaydon Hill and which program he may ultimately commit to in the next few weeks. Hill spoke with Chad Simmons from Rivals.com recently and said he hopes to decide in early September. Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee are all still battling here and as I wrote recently, it’s been very difficult to pin down which program will ultimately land his services. There have been plenty of twists and turns and could be more before his decision.
