*** September 1 is a significant date on the recruiting trail, as it marks the first day that 2022 prospects are classified as juniors for recruiting purposes.

That means that South Carolina – and other programs across the country – began working at midnight, once the clock turned to the 1st, to send out texts and direct messages to prospects from that class.

Many of the messages that South Carolina sent out were of the “edit” variety that has become so popular with prospects, such as the one below:

Here is just a sampling of prospects that publicly noted that South Carolina reached out in the last several hours. If you don’t see a known priority prospect on this list, it’s because it has not been confirmed that the staff reached out at this point. However, you can bet that every offered prospect and potential priority heard from the staff.

DE Dante Anderson
WR Camden Brown
OL Anez Cooper
WR Janiran Bonner
WR Syveion Ellis
WR Rodney Hill
ATH Virgil Marshall
DE/TE Ja’veon Mobley
OL Khurtiss Perry
OL Collin Sadler
DT Dayne Shor
WR Jaleel Skinner

*** Expect one of South Carolina’s early priorities in the 2022 class to hail from a program that’s been kind to South Carolina in recent classes.

Four-star linebacker Jaron Willis is from Lee County in Georgia, the same school that has produced 2021 RB Caleb McDowell as well as current roster member Jammie Robinson.

While Willis has mentioned some rival programs – Florida and LSU, to name a couple – as standouts in the past, it’s thought that South Carolina will probably at least have a seat at the table here. Willis grew up loving SEC football, so it stands to reason that those programs – which comprise a large chunk of his offer list – will have a good shot.

*** South Carolina is in pursuit of a two-sport athlete in the 2022 class out of Tallahassee in Tre Donaldson, who’s a talented guard on the hoops hardwood and a defensive back on the gridiron.

He’s among the early apparent priorities for the Gamecock football staff in his class. Here’s what Donaldson, who has not yet visited Columbia, told us recently about Carolina:

“Everything I’ve heard, I haven’t really gotten to see the campus, but the campus is beautiful. I have Coach Muschamp’s number. I haven’t really gotten to talk to him because there’s a lot going on. The coaches there are great, they’re building something big.”

*** Getting back to within the Palmetto State’s borders, Goose Creek’s Jayden Johnson has carried an offer from Eric Wolford for some time. Johnson has remained in touch with Wolford throughout the earlier stages of the process and is one GamecockCentral.com continues to track on the trail.
