Recruiting Tidbits
St. Stephens (S.C.) Timberland four-star offensive lineman Quinton Washington plans to sign at a ceremony at his school on Wednesday at 3:30 PM. He may announce his college choice before that, but it’s possible he will wait until then to announce which school he’ll attend. As of this writing, I believe Washington is undecided between Carolina and Michigan. The Wolverines are a factor in his recruitment. I’ll still be somewhat surprised if he doesn’t sign with the Gamecocks, but I wouldn’t shocked.
I hear South Carolina’s coaches are very confident that Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military four-star defensive lineman Leon Mackey will sign with them tomorrow. I still have not been able to reach him for an interview, but I can tell you the guys from the Clemson site made the decision to remove him from their commitment list and add him to Carolina’s list.
St. Matthews (S.C.) Calhoun County four-star wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is supposed to announce/sign between 9:00 and 10:00 AM tomorrow morning. If he was signing his LOI this morning, I have strong reason to believe it would be with the Gamecocks. Whether or not that holds true over the next 24 hours remains to be seen.
Here’s the schedule for what time some of the Carolina commitments plan to sign their LOI’s tomorrow. These are, of course, subject to change:
Steve Singleton - 7:30 AM
Chaun Gresham - 9:00 AM
Kevious Watkins - 9:00-10:00 AM
DeAngelo Smith - 9:00-10:00 AM
Lamar Scruggs - 9:30 AM
Damario Jeffery - 10:00 AM
Chris Payne - 10:00 AM
DeMario Bennett - 10:00 AM
Andrew Clifford - 12:00 PM
Justice Cunningham - 12:00 PM
Nick Allison - 12:30 PM
Aldrick Fordham - 3:30 PM
Stephon Gilmore, DeVonte Holloman, Jarvis Giles, Chaz Sutton, Tony Straughter, and Josh Dickerson have already enrolled and will not be signing LOI’s.
Gainesville (Ga,) 2010 quarterback/athlete Blake Sims is very high on Carolina and would likely commit if offered. However, for that to happen, his academic situation is going to have to improve. If the Gamecocks do offer, it will likely be as a defensive back.
Team Information
Dion LeCorn has been moved from safety back to wide receiver, the position he has played for most of his Gamecock career. If he has a productive spring and summer, he has the ability to compete for a starting spot and could potentially play a big role in 2009.
