Recruiting tidbits
I get the strong impression that four-star running back Jarvis Giles is ready to end the recruiting process and commit to Carolina. However, his father is very involved in this decision, and Giles is going to have to sell him on the idea that coming to Columbia is the best move. His father was very pro-Tennessee for a long period of time, so we’ll see how things shake out from here.
Things look very good for Carolina where Daytona Beach (Fla.) Seabreeze safety Jonathan Scott is concerned. He’s not ready to go public with any kind of decision, but he said all the right things to those that interacted with him while he was on campus. By the way, he was closer 6-foot-4, than to his listed 6-foot-3 and looked great physically.
The finish to this recruiting class has a chance to be the complete antithesis to last year’s, when Carolina limped to the finish. I feel comfortable calling the Gamecocks the current leaders for the following highly rated uncommitted prospects:
Tampa (Fla.) Gaither four-star running back Jarvis Giles
St. Stephen (S.C.) Timberland four-star offensive lineman Quinton Washington
Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe four-star safety DeVonte Holloman
Greenwood (S.C.) four-star defensive end Sam Montgomery
St. Matthews (S.C.) Calhoun County four-star receiver Alshon Jeffrey
Beaufort (S.C.) four-star defensive tackle Duane Chisolm
Carolina is also heavily involved with other four-star prospects such as:
Chatham (Va.) Hargrave four-star safety Jonathan Meeks
Jacksonville (Fla.) Fletcher four-star receiver Lamar Scruggs
Shelby (N.C.) four-star athlete Larry Raper
Coffeyville (Kan.) four-star offensive lineman James Carpenter
Let me be clear, I’m NOT projecting all of the above players to ultimately choose the Gamecocks, but I do think it’s very possible they’ll land the majority of them if they finish the season on a high note. The coaches have a ton of momentum on the recruiting trail and are working very hard to make it snowball, which would lead to a tremendous finish.
