Recruiting tidbits

Four-star running back Trabis Ward does not have an offer from South Carolina and is not a player they will take in this class. He is not going to qualify academically, and the Gamecocks are focused on other backs. The Gamecocks also recently backed off other backs such as Donald Russell, Tracy Lampley and Dontae Aycock.

I have learned that Coffeyville (Kan.) four-star offensive lineman James Carpenter can be admitted to Carolina in January, which should allow the Gamecocks to jump back in the mix with him. He visited Alabama over the weekend and has a visit set with Oklahoma. I’ll be surprised if the Augusta, Ga., native doesn’t set one with Carolina very soon.

The ideal scenario at offensive line for Carolina would be adding four-star offensive lineman Quinton Washington and Carpenter to the mix with what they already have committed.

One player still on the board who you haven’t heard much about is Lynchburg (Va.) Brookville offensive lineman Devin Bolling. He visited Virginia Tech over the weekend, and the Hokies want him to grayshirt. He also has offers from UConn and Boston College.

Speaking of Virginia Tech, Central (S.C.) Daniel cornerback and Hokie commitment Jerrodd Williams is a player the Gamecocks are still involved with, and he may set a visit with Carolina. He attended a couple of home games earlier this year.

Miramar (Fla.) three-star wide receiver Stedman Bailey is a player the staff is still high on, and he is expected to take an official visit to Columbia.
