Recruiting tidbits
Dorman knocked off the nation’s No. 1 team last week in the Byrnes Rebels and moved to 9-0 on the season. Their class of 2011 wide receiver Cheron Peake already sports offers from Carolina and Clemson and is a player to watch closely in the coming years. Lake City (S.C.) running back Shon Carson is another one to keep an eye on in the class of 2011. He has been to a couple of Gamecock home games already and could be back on campus this weekend.
Royal Palm Beach (Fla.) wide receiver Chris Dunkley is one of the fastest and best overall prospects in the Sunshine State’s class of 2010, and the Gamecocks have extended an early offer to him. He also has tenders from Florida, Florida State, and several others.
Frederick (Md.) St. John's Catholic Prep 2010 defensive lineman Ego Ferguson has several early offers to his credit, including one from Carolina. He has some ties to the Southeast and is expected to take a visit to Columbia at some point.
The Jacksonville (Fla.) area has been good to Carolina in recent years and a junior to watch is Terry Parker defensive lineman Tavadis Glenn. The 6-foot-5, 280-pounder has early tenders from South Carolina, Clemson and Miami.
Gamecock signee Darrell Simmons did not qualify academically and will enroll at Butler C.C. in January. Carolina will monitor his progress in junior college and make a decision on whether to re-sign him down the line. It will come down to how he performs academically, when he can enroll and what the needs are at his position at that point in time.
Team Information
I’ve gotten nothing but positive vibes from the team since the LSU game. While the players are obviously not happy with the loss, they realize they still have an excellent opportunity to close the season on a high note and earn a spot in a prestigious bowl game. They should be favored in the three of the four remaining games, putting eight wins or more within reach if they take care of business.
