There's always friendly competition re numbers, but sometimes you see one that's crazy looking with 50+. I am sure someone has a record book.

Definitely none on Hartwell, I gained an appreciation for freshwater while in college and law school.

its fun catching them in the fall off capers island sc.....weve caught them in the surf as big as 30+ pounds....the hard thing is catchn them in the slot....i do like me some fried drum

I seriously care about Clumpsum once a year.......If they get tix from their uncles cousins grandmothers daughter in law I really don't care.....

You can get clemsux tickets at the thrift stores in the area when they lose their first game....lol....or with an order of fries at Burger King.....

I can't see the picture on my phone but by reading the other posts I think you're talking about a spottail, otherwise known as a redfish or red drum. A spot is a totally different fish.

How do students at S.Car get better tix these days? When I was there you had to join the Gamecock Club. Do they give the better seats free to students now?

Last year, my son signed up on the lottery system to try to get football tickets at Carolina and really didn't have luck getting tickets... As far as I know, Carolina didn't have requirements to sign up with the Gamecock Club for better tickets as students. You got student tickets.

My son was able to get football tickets easily at Clemson than at Carolina last year. He saw 5 Clemson home games to 1 Carolina home game, including the Carolina/Clemson game.

You had a choice to join the Gamecock Club to build up points for future tickets and seatings...

This year at Clemson, my son was told if he wanted better seats for the game, he had to join IPTAY if they want better seats for football...

Not trying to start anything, just looking for an apples to apples answer - IPTAY had 25.5 million from annual giving - from dues. What was the Gamecock Club's number for the same?

I started at USC in 1982 and students haven't had to belong to the Gamecock Club to get tickets at any point since then.

I was at USC in the late 80s and early 90s. I've had family members there since then.

No mention ever of having to join the Gamecock Club for better seats- and I would have known since I helped out in student distribution.

You could join the GC if you wanted to accumulate points but you'd have to buy season tickets through the club.

Don't make things up.

Was there in 2003. No club requirement back then, and no block seating. Just a waiting line at the Russell House. You could join the SGC just to pick up points for the future, but no, Carolina students didn't have to join anything. They don't have to join now either.

Back in 1981, we use to camp outside around the Carolina Coliseum Saturday week before the game for student Carolina /Clemson tickets. A lot of drinking during that time, when the drinking age was 18.

I think it that was the last time Carolina allow camping out around the Carolina Coliseum.

Both of my kids never had to join the Gamecock club to get tickets. Seems that the student tickets were in certain sections but they could sit anywhere in that section they wanted. They always had a big group that sat in basically the same seats every game.

The lottery system for tickets is stupid though. It allows everyone an equal chance with no effort. The old system of walking to the RH and walking in line if necessary was better. That way those that got tickets wanted tickets.

They screwed up the pharmacy schools tickets about every year I was there under the new system. They keep trying to put us in as freshmen (aka no points), when some of us had quite a few years under our belts.

I spent the night there that night. I believe that USC had just lost to Furman, perhaps that was 1982 thinking back on it. The game was in CU and we got several tickets. Drove up there in my mother's van, packed in like Mexicans heading for a construction site. Got escorted out by a Pickens County Sheriff's deputy in the mid-4th quarter, talked my way out of jail, and went to a CU friend of ours frat house and drank the hell out of their beer.

When I was at Carolina, we lined up outside the Russell House for the BIG games. Missed a lot of classes, but very few home games due to this? The lottery has taken over now. Students accrue 'points' by attending Carolina sporting events (Soccer, volleyball, etc.). The more you attend non-revenue sporting events, the more lottery points you obtain. Sure as hell don't have to join the Gamecock Club....

That game was Pacific, the team we beat in 1980 73-0... Furman did Bell in back in 1982.

I clearly misunderstood worldclass' post.

I thought he was talking about getting tickets "better" than the student section. If he meant "better" tickets within the student section, then I agree that neither school requires club membership.

And it was cold as hell outside the Coliseum. The wind always whipped around that place. I also remember camping out at the Russell House.

I did not make anything up. I had friends that wanted better seats than the student section and each of them joined the Gamecock Club to get them. I wish I had known you then since you could have hooked them up with better seats through your job.

I was in grad school at Carolina 3 years ago. The way it works (if they haven't made any changes) is that the students are on on lottery system. You have a certain number of points and each point is an entry into the lottery. At the beginning of each year freshman have 1 pt, Sophs have 2, Jrs have 3 and Srs have 4. You can earn points by attending games. Points for attendance are automatic in Football and Basketball, but you can also earn points by attending events in other sports. If you get a ticket to a Football game and don't go, you lose a point. If you receive a ticket and cannot attend, you can return that ticket to the Ath Dept with no penalty up to the end of the Thursday before the game (tickets are issued on Tuesday and you have to apply for them online by Sunday night). The student section itself is open seating. If you want to sit in a particular part, you get there a little early.

Hope this clarifies some things. We seam to have this discussion on here every year.

If you were a member of the Student Gamecock Club, you received priority points WHILE IN COLLEGE that you could use toward your overall point total when you became a member of the Gamecock Club. Within the club, students could earn additional points by attending club events, olympic sporting events (select volleyball, soccer, etc matches). These points got you better seats for BASKETBALL games. The Student Gamecock Club had their section, forgot what it was called, but you could sit in there if you had a certain amount of points.

ETA that Charleston is right - this is how it is done now. My example above was how it was done in the late 90s/early 2000s

back n my day there was a $40 activity fee (optional), for all sportin' events. they used rotatin' last digit of ss# to determine pick up time for each game, although class rankin had its privilege if yer numer was up u would get the best.... over say sr.'s who had 2nd ss# order pick time.

Exact same system was in place during my day as well. Except, the activity fee had been raised to $75.

Yep, and some idiot kept running around drunk sounding like alarm clock or something like that.

I do remember his girlfriend was looking for him in the morning. I think he passed out in the bushes...

My son said better seating for students if you join IPTAY.

As I remembered, with the Gamecock Club, students can join and will help them build up points to get Carolina/Clemson tickets at home when you buy season tickets when you graduate...

To be fair (and I detest Clempson because they want to be something they aren't) they do have good support.

Now they aren't in our League as far as the GCC but IMHO they do well for what they have and I honestly don't mean that as a dig.

They probably detest the ACC as much or more than we do and with good reason.

Not long ago, the clemsux students were upset because there was an automatic tuition fee for every student, and I think it was sports related. Wasn't it iptay?
