garnet glasses a minute. Holbroken's classes were ranked in the top 10, as high as 2,3,and 5. Even with top 10 talent, we are getting bottom 10 results. We have AD that wants program to excell(?). Just fired a coach that has the cougars in the top 30 to hire even better coach. So when you remove the glasses, the only logical explanation is the "Chicken Curse" Amirite?

None the f this happened until Dabo told everyone he spooned mama

Coach Holtz once said the Chicken Curse is particularly effective when you don't block or tackle well. I would submit that when your Friday starter issues seven walks and only lasts three innings against the #7 ranked team on their home field, the Chicken Curse is going to seem rather potent.

Nobody was talking Chicken Curse when Carolina won back to back national championships. There is no Chicken Curse. There is just poor performance.

We have to be the only fan base in the nation who cares this much about nationally irrelevant sports like College baseball and WBB... the Chicken curse doesn’t give two Effs about BASEBALL, AND You are no cursed in any sport you have won multiple NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN! So, no, and this is a really stupid thread.

Curse is still alive and well in FB where we have yet to win ANYTHING meaningful, it is an actual relevant sport and every superstar we get who might propel us over the edge gets injured or leaves early and doesn’t live up to their potential here.

Some people get off trying to fool some people , but if you pay attention the obvious is right in front of you see I respect people who don't hide

Don't agree that WBB and baseball are irrelevant, the women's have earned respect for sure and baseball has shown what it could be...agree completely with the second part though...you should have added that while we have this terrible luck with injuries and have nothing to show for 120 years of football, our closest rivals are also playoff teams and reloading.

Do you really think we would be in better shape this year if Holbroken was still the head Coach at Carolina????

Alert- I tried to tell you people , do you see it now
See what? That Holbrook needed more time? If you follow baseball, it was easy to see the deterioration in our hitting and our limited approach at the plate. You would also know that correcting a baseball swing and an approach is every bit as difficult as correcting one in golf, if not more so. This team has learned bad habits at the plate for 2/3 years....it's going to take more than one to fix it.

I'm guessing I completely misread your post? If so....apologies.

I'm critical of some things attributed to SC , I call it how I see it , but most good posters on this site know where my allegiance is.. i don't like people who come on here and who hide the fact they are someone they aren't

If the chicken curse was still alive it wouldn't allowed us to win 2 baseball national championships. Holbroke wasn't developing the talent he was getting especially with hitting. Once you learn to do something a certain way it becomes a habit and then takes a while to un-learn it. Its going to take Kingston a while to undo Holbroke habits.

It amazes me how few people seem to understand that.

Baseball isn’t relevant to you because you just don’t happen to like baseball. I’d guess at least half of footballs relevance comes from the fact that a large portion of the people watching are only watching because they pair it with drinking. The actual sport of football isn’t any more relevant than lacrosse. It’s all a matter of opinion. None of these sports are really relevant in the grand scheme of things. It’s entertainment, and I don’t typically look at what other people enjoy to determine what I should enjoy.

Tell that to the sponsors, advertisers and TV of NFL football who are raking in billions

I can see your point. If this is true, then it won't take but a year or so before Holbroken will have the Cougars swinging the bats like they're knocking the tops off of cow turds. Hope this happens before we play em.

National relevance, popularity on a national stage... you are telling me LACROSSE is as relevant as FOOTBALL in college? BS. Tell me the last time there was a bidding war for TV rights to air lacrosse, or the last time- actually, just tell me ANYHING about lacrosse because whatever it is would likely be news to 98% of America!

Also, I LOVE baseball personally... Especially college baseball... You clearly didn’t understand anything I said but just making up nonsense to counter it makes you look really foolish. Just stop... seriously.

But if anyone wants statistical analysis- simply see the NCAA’s website!
https://www.statista.com/topics/1436/college-sports-ncaa/

The only two sports that matter at ALL- from a popularity, revenue, television ratings, game attendance... or any other possible measurable- are College football and MENS basketball. Nobody cares much about any other sport, EXCEPT fans at schools where their MBB and CFB teams are traditionally awful and they have to divert their attention to “also ran” sports just to have something to get excited about... THAT is what I am talking about. There is no factual evidence to support any argument that WBB, college baseball, or LACROSSE (WTF are you even...??) have Anything near the kind of popularity of the two relevant sports, even if you COMBINED their revenue, attendance... NOBODY CARES on a national level. I DO, personally. I enjoy baseball, especially when we are good, which we are NOT any more... I attend games.. we have a great ballpark... I just don’t ty to convince myself we are some highly respected athletic program on a national scale because our WBB team or baseball team has been good in the recent past. The final four run by the men’s team two years ago did more to put the Gamecocks on the map than ALL of our prior sports accomplishments combined prior or since. More than CLOWNEY, more than the WBB NC, more than back to back baseball NC...

All that said... the chicken curse is truly childish BS and excuse making by a fan base who cannot accept the fact we suck at football. Always have and until our program commits to doing what is necessary to RUTHLESSLY pursue success, we always WILL. Curses are not real.

Curious...what is it that we are not doing "ruthlessly?"

. Sounds like we need to hire some RUTHLESS bastards to run our football program. Good with me if that's what it takes.

it lies dormant for years at a time, like The Creeper from the movie Jeepers Creepers

Baseball is all about streaks.
&
You throw the ball
You hit the ball
You catch the ball

If you struggle too much in one or more areas you are more likely to lose (EFFN WALKS).

Curses only exist in voodoo

Chicken curse my Aunt Sally. The only chicken curse is when you don't block and tackle, hit the baseball or miss baskets. Boom rode the curse to a come from behind Bowl win over Mich. and 9 wins last year and Frank to a Final Four a year ago. It's called "how it goes in sports".

My point was that as a fan, my interests aren't determined by the interests of others. That was my only point. Sure, football is more relevant when it comes to money, television ratings, and national respect. But I don't spend my nights worrying about those things, and I certainly don't care about national respect. Seems a little childish to me. It's Tanners job to worry about money, not mine. Any college athletics fan with any kind of balance in their life watches for enjoyment..not because they're looking for respect from other fans.

So yes, if your main focus is revenue and national respect, ignore baseball. It's not relevant from that perspective. Quite honestly, it never would have occurred to me that an adult would watch college athletics with those things at the forefront of their mind, so please forgive me for clearly not understanding anything you said. Most well adjusted adults wouldn't have understood, especially given that no post prior to yours mentioned money, television ratings, or national respect. Most adults don't seek respect through the accomplishments of 18-21 year old kids. They just watch the sports they enjoy.

Willie Mays said baseball was a easy game. All you have to do is hit the ball, throw the ball, and catch the ball. We cant do any of these things and we cant bunt either.

Yes, football is more relevant when it comes to money. I don't personally get any of those billions. Do you?

Below is what you said in an earlier post and i commented on it:
"The actual sport of football isn’t any more relevant than lacrosse."

...and then you spin it, trying in vain to make your comment make sense...

It isn't any more relevant than lacrosse unless you're talking about money or what most fans watch. Athletic revenue and popularity isn't relevant to me. How are those things relevant to you? I assume you don't make any money off of USC athletics.

What's relevant to one person isn't always relevant to another. The poster I responded to seems to be driven by the so called respect he thinks the school deserves. That's not at the top of the list for everybody.

From a personal perspective, football and baseball are what I care about most. I care about baseball more than I care about basketball, even though basketball generates more money. Should I care about basketball more just because most fans do or because it generates a profit. I grew up playing baseball and know the game well. I don't know anything about basketball. Should I just forget about baseball because its irrelevant from a profit standpoint? That's basically what Lifer seems to think.
