Kensucky would have been pile-driven into the ground.....

Heard on the CBS show today that UK was in the toughest region. I hope someone knocks them off.

Look out for Notre Dame. Those guys can nail threes. They're ridiculous shooting the ball.

yeah, no one is going to do it on the inside.....teams are going to have to make shots from the outside first....draw kentucky away from the basket

No way... I don't no about you, but I was around for those years, UCLA then, does not beat Kentucky now

Sox,

Have to agree with you. Although its hard to compare teams during a different time an era. IF they make the run through the tournament, then they definitely have to be considered as one of the best

I do not like to bet, but I would put money on any Alcindor team versus Kentucky. Especially with neutral refs.
BTW, the bench on those UCLA teams were very deep.
Ky would beat the undefeated Indiana team, and most post-Alcindor champs ( remember Alcindor could not dunk the ball - dunking was illegal in college then ).

Please...this UK team would run circles around those UCLA teams. Different eras so hard to compare but I disagree with the OP

Apples and oranges. Kareem and Walton played until they were seniors. Anthony Davis would be a senior this year, if he had stayed in school. Scary thought.

Like mentioned above, it depends on how the refs called the game. College Basketball today barely resembles the game that it was in the 60's and 70's. Bring those refs back and most of today's kids would foul out in the first half. A lot of today's moves would be gone too because they actually called "palming" back then.

This UK team is the greatest of all time, in my opinion. I thought that after they dismantled Kansas in their season opener and stick by it now.

Alcindor and Walton had few legitimate rival centers to play against in those days. They were men amongst boys. There's a lot more parity today, and good big men.

Re: Kentucky would have been pile-driven into the ground.....

You do not have to go back that far....the Duke team with Grant Hillm Hurley and Lattner would beat them as most likely would the UNLV team they beat that year......shooting was required then.

It is funny listening to the national announcers struggle through faking the enthusiasm for the UK team's chance at 40-0 because their is something unseemly about pushing a team with 9 McDonald Americans on the roster with 3 other Top 30 players filling out the roster.....the announcers KNOW that UK is paying players, Execs KNOW that UK is paying players, and I suspect that the NCAA knows that UK is paying players but everyone has to pretend otherwise....they just wish that Uk had been a little more subtle about it by limiting it to 4 or 5 Top 10 players instead of just buying the entire East roster of the game for the past three years.

Well, I was there also ... so let's just consider the facts.

Lew Alcindor = 7' 2", 20 years in the NBA, 19 all-star years. Considered by many the #1 NBA player of all-time. 3 NCAA Championships

Sidney Wicks = 6' 8", 10 years in the NBA, 4 time NBA all-star, NBA Rookie of the year, Trail Blazers franchise record holder for rebounds in a game (27), 22.3 pts/game in the NBA. 3 NCAA Championships. Academic player of the year.

Curtis Rowe = 6' 7", 8 years in the NBA, NBA all-star 1976, 11.6 pts/game in the NBA. 3 NCAA Championships

The 2015 Kentucky basketball team couldn't carry the jocks for those guys.... JUST LIKE BOSTON HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE INFERIOR TO THE YANKEES.

If 2014-2015 Kentucky played 1960s-early1970s UCLA, this Kentucky team would win by 30.

Just like the 2014 Patriots would destroy the Lombardi Packers, and the 2013 Heat would beat the 1950s and 1960s Celtics.

Athletes now are bigger, stronger and faster. That's why comparing eras is a futile exercise ---- the metrics of the eras have changed so much that the sports are completely different now than when they were even 25 years ago.

If Alcindor and the boys played today, with the same nutrition, wellness and fitness programs, then you'd have an argument for them beating this UK team.

A better question is how this Kentucky team stacks up with the champions of the past 10 years. Then you can make fair comparisons.

Not to mention the traveling violations that are seldom called today. The game was played with a lot more discipline during Alcindor's years, and enforced so by the refs.
