Being that kg was originally from mauldin, did we ever try to recruit him? how sick that 1996-97 team would've been with him inside and davis, mckie, and watson outside!

Sure the coaches "tried". But, they never had a prayer of landing him. He was NBA all the way. The same with Jermaine O'Neal, who was on Carolina's front door playing at Eau Claire HS.
Nike moved Garnett to Chicago's Farragut Academy after his sophomore year at Mauldin. He was NBA bound all the way. I remember having the conversation in high school with my buddies at Dutch Fork in the mid 90s about the idea of KG, O'Neal, Ray Allen, McKie, and Larry Davis on one team at Carolina though it was clearly a pipedream.

So was Tyrone Corbin...My sister taught Garnett at Mauldin and according to her and other teachers he only path was going pro. Wasn't going to make in in college. I do remember him clearly stating that he was going pro after High School, which was why Nike moved him up North.
His scores did not qualify. He was leaning towards South Carolina. Some say he would have gone to South Carolina. His SAT scores were too low. I tried finding the Post and Courier article, but no luck.
One of my friends was a DM with ingles markets and when KG was at high school he was a store manager. He said he Fired KG, but they met up like 5 years ago in mauldin and KG was visting. He remembered him, He told the old store mgr , You're a DM now looks like you did alright, and told him I guess I did pretty good to. He said all he did was agreed smiled and shook his hand. Kinda cool....
