Let's Talk Some Baseball

Will South Carolina win more mid weeks games compared to last season? I think losing some of those mid week games killed any chance at South Carolina making the NCAA Tournament last season.

By virtue of having more healthy arms and a generally weak non conference schedule I’ll say yet. I’m certain they’ll drop 1-2 along the way but they can’t let that snowball into 4-5 RPI crushing loses like last year.

Kip just had to add a "but" after calling it a big time win. That's so Kip.

What about this RHP who is sidelined for Tommy John surgery? Are we going to be able to absorb that?
Carolina won’t have Kimball the Notre Dame transfer or Williams, one of the three Clemson transfers this season. Kimball would have definitely pitched some weekend innings out of the bullpen.

I do think that this year’s team is much more capable of withstanding an injury or two on the mound. Pitching is better and deeper this year.

LOVED the fact we didn't strikeout 10+ times tonight! That seemed to be a nightly occurrence last season, regardless of opponent. Our plate approach was our biggest downfall last season.

I liked that we didnt have many huge off balanced swings wanting to pulling everything. Seemed to stay within ourselves WITH power. We had a lot of good opposite field hits and HRs on outside pitches. Hope we keep it up.

As Vienna would say, we hit, we pitched, we won, move on! But really baseball is such a different game, so many highs an lows in a season, hopefully some of the stuff this team has been through has toughened them up to keep an even keel, you guys are right though anybody could see a difference in plate discipline in just one game from the prior two seasons, so now you know what Monte brings to the table!

I hope you are right about Monte. And I hope his input has made a difference and if it has, I hope it sticks. I remain in wait and see mode tho. I think back to all of Kingston's years and our mechanics look pretty good to start the year... until they dont. Our guys always seem to do well to prepare in the offseason. If their mechanics hold, I will have no doubt Monte is the difference. I believe his job is just getting started.

The biggest difference in this year compared to others imo is the comfort level at the plate in the lineup as a whole. We may have more guys than ever looking comfortable. I think this is what excites me the most going forward. I didnt see anyone looking like they were trying to do too much. Even when a number of guys hit HRs, the guys as a whole looked content to hit singles instead of participating in a HR contest. Some of that may be coaching, some of it players. Whatever the case, it sure was good to see.

Can any one point me to the baseball schedule and the active roster of players?
You can also find the roster there

Loved his inside fastball attempt with an 0-2 count. Gutsy and confident.

Another good sign of our approaches is when Wimmer moved the runners over with a bunt and Denny punches the ball into right to score. Last year we'd be over-swinging, making the bunt meaningless and working against ourselves.

It is a little disheartening that I am paying for a site that can not provide a baseball schedule or player roster

Not impressed with the Winthrop pitcher throwing at several Carolina batters after home runs last night.

Glad we beat the shit out of them.

Massachusetts Lowell hit four South Carolina batters in one inning. Why so some of the SEC teams have a mercy rule and South Carolina does not.

If I'm not mistaken, when it comes to ooc games, both coaches have to agree to it prior to the first pitch.
The SEC has instituted it in tournament play only to keep from falling behind time wise.
Interestingly enough the SEC is adapting the mercy rule for all conference games starting this year.
Wouldnt surprise me to see implemented in all games, conference and ooc soon.

I posted in this thread earlier that Lee would coach third. Obviously that was incorrect as Wingo has been there all season.
