$94,500,000!!! $31 million in 2003 and $63.5 million in '15/'16.

All this money and they will actually lose some 2,000 seats. Now they will only have approx. 8,000 seats. On the other hand they will have pretty new locker rooms and a new practice facility.

By contrast the very profitable multi-use 18,000 seat Colonial Life Center was completed in 2002 at a total cost of $65 million.

There's a great thread about this already.

EDIT: Oops, just saw you started both...

True if your only measure is basketball wins.

Up for debate when looking at other active uses of the venue.

Yeah, all in all the CLA has been a big winner for us. Even though the men's team is struggling, the women are (finally) pretty good, and we host a lot of major concerts and events there too. Littlejohn basically only gets used for Clemson basketball. We'll make money on the CLA long-term, even without winning basketball, but Clemson has basically flushed a bunch of money down the drain.

Like throwing public money down a rat hole. I'll bet our tea cup-sippin' CONSERVATIVE guv would flip out if she knew about this waste . . . . oops! She's a Tater. Bet she told 'em how to get the appropriations past Budget and Control or is it CHE - Commission on Higher Education? No, wait, Uncle Ben Tillman and his butt buddy, Tommy-boy Clemson set things up so Tillman Tech answers to no one - one-half of their BOT is inbred - if you die while on the Lifetime side of the BOT, they simply vote amongst themselves to replace you - with a Tater just like them. That way, they'll always be . . . self-perpetuated!

To put in perspective:

Man to builder: Yes I would like to throw a couple of hundred thouseand into remodeling my house.

Builder: You are wanting to add more rooms then.

Man: No I want to make my house smaller

Builder: Huh????

Major renovation will occur in the CLA and cost $50 million it was a rushed job and it shows. The renovation will occur in the next 5 years.

USC was one of only two schools to average over 11,000 in attendance for both men's and women's basketball during the 2014-15 season. The other school.....Tennessee.

Is that a guess? I read every publication of the BOT minutes, and I don't recall any discussion of a renovation project at that level, or at any dollar amount for that matter, for the CLA. What is about the CLA that 'shows' it was a rush job?

Imo, the CLA is an excellent venue - unlike the old 'Frank' patrons don't get dizzy climbing steep steps to seats in the upper reaches of the arena. Great sight lines and roomy seats at the CLA.

To do what? The locker rooms were redone a few years ago with money that Dodie donated. I can see few million to tidy the place up but $50 million?

I thought the same thing. Usually when stadiums and arenas get smaller it's due to adding suites or at least some type of premium seating. I looked at the link the Taterhead posted above and I don't see anything like that. It's almost like they're taking out seats to try and create a demand for basketball tickets because there are fewer seats to go around. That, or they want to be able to say they sold out X number of home games in a season.

I tell all the Taters I work with that the lower level and half the suites were built for Gamecock basketball. The upper deck and the other half of the suites were built for Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, and George Strait.
