Marcus Satterfield and Clayton White meeting with the media start at 12:20 p.m. Satterfield first, White second. Updates will be in this post.
Satterfield first
--Asked first about the Burch play, said they talked all week about doing it in that situation. Mentions it would work eight out of 10 times. Said "if I had our do-overs I'd try to run it in." Said he got too much into his own head. Said they should have run the ball in, "that's for sure."
--On the first down play, said it's hard to replicate the speed in practice Joyner would have to see in a game but that was a run pass option.
--Feels great about understanding personnel and personnel groupings. Now it's about putting guys in positions to succeed. Said they have to figure out ways to get the ball on the perimeter in space.
--If you're paying attention to stats it doesn't show much progress. Said communication is improving and the core of guys is coming together. Said he's really proud about his team's fight after the first quarter.
--Thought Trai Jones did a good job at fullback. That's a package "we can continue to grow" and get Kevin Harris downhill.
--Jaheim Bell needs to get the ball more and is different than anyone else on the field. Said he's "special." Just have to make sure guys are functioning as one.
--Still feels confident in the run game. They're putting together less negative yard plays and getting in more of a flow. Think it's going in the right direction.
--Mentions offensive line blocking the guy, blocking the right guys and the quarterback/running back understanding the footwork and timing of each run play. All that comes together and play into it.
--EJ Jenkins has certain plays scripted for him in the red zone and has a personnel package. Said if Josh Vann is rolling and playing well they keep him in and put Jenkins in once Vann is tired or they want to insert him. It's a feel thing.
--Doesn't think he's gotten enough out of the Dakereon Joyner package. Said he wanted it to be more of an actual quarterback position and now it's more of a situational work. He would have envisioned using that different. Putting those guys out there together tries to put as many different guys with skill sets out there.
--Having a feel for a game is really imperative and thinks he has a good feel for the game and for the team and thinks he can build a game plan that gets South Carolina into the fourth quarter of most games. Thinks they play the game smart and as the season goes on and making more plays you can take a few more chances as an offensive coordinator. Thinks they're progressing. Can't wait to see what it looks like by the end of the year.
--Thinks Doty's really improved as a pocket passer. Doty's been able to handle a NFL offense and go through progressions, etc. in a system run by NFL teams. He's really progressed there from where he was in the spring.
Clayton White
--Strategy going into the Tennessee was playing their game and dealing with tempo early. Said playing off receivers isn't always the plan and up to him to make sure his defense starts better.
--RJ Roderick did a good job preparing for Tennessee. Really helped the defense in the second half.
--Definitely want to be better in the run game. Teams are throwing a lot in the run game at South Carolina. Thinks they have the talent to play better from a run game perspective. Thinks all the mistakes they've been making are easily correctable.
--Stopping the run is about an entire team doing its job. They have guys who can step up behind Sherrod Greene. Said from a depth it hurts.
--Damani Staley is coming in and getting extra work in and understands the game. Mo Kaba just needs to get more reps in practice to continue coming along. He's been proud of the young guys for practicing well and giving good effort in practice.
--Said it would be easy to be pissed after the start against Tennessee but it was all happening so fast and guys didn't blink and continued playing. They didn't come out shell shocked and really continued to battle.
That's a wrap.
