Loggains Gone

Here is the real chance for Beamer to prove me wrong.

Make a big hire. But I'm sure we will settle with Shula.

Though I'm not shedding tears re: his apparent departure, I have to admit that shovel pass call against Missouri was a great call.

Who replaces him? Marcus Satterfield? ;) :D

That would be hilarious. Just the meltdown here would be worth it.

BTW, from May of 2022...

"One prospect Satterfield has been watching is LaNorris Sellers (6-3, 217) of South Florence. Satterfield was on hand to watch South Florence practice last Friday. Sellers was once committed to Virginia but dropped that after the coaching change. He currently is committed to Syracuse but is open to hearing from the Gamecocks."

I like Loggains. He has to be given credit for the improvements of Sellers, since he's Seller's coach.

Rather than dumping on the guy which is typical of this forum, getting a good coached poached is a sign of a solid program.

I agree. The good run at the end of this season made for some high hopes next year. Hopefully this doesn't impact Seller's willingness to stay here.

Sucks to have another OC start to show promise and bail on us, but it is what it is.

I think the offense was pretty innovative. We ran some slick plays that were hard to defend.
It also had to impress App St in what they were looking for.
I will be pulling for him to do well in Boone.

We scored 17 points on Clemson and a team that was G5 last season put up 31.

We won based on our defense. Our offense generally did just enough to win. Beamer just got a blessing to replace the OC when we are going to have to outscore opponents next year.

That's a lie. We blew out half our opponents, including Oklahoma, Kentucky, TAMU, and Vandy.

And Clemson was a rivalry game at Clemson. Football algebra doesn't apply.

You really are one shitty turd of a "fan".

I wonder if the coaches knew he could do that before they saw it in a game?

Maybe, but that's not general something you want to rely on when you call a play.

Either way, I hope the best for Loggains. He gave us some big wins while he was here and I appreciate that.

Considering a majority of his long runs were on designed passing plays, I'm fine with telling Lanorris "if you don't like what you see, do what do best". I'd imagine the new OC will have the same strategy. I expect Sellers to keep improving in the passing game with more targets next year.

Our passing game struggled at times against Clemson because they were amped up at home in a rivalry game like you alluded to and Simon wasn't 100 percent (his favorite target). Though Sellers made a few clutch passes at moments.

I'm not going to criticize the team or coaches for not scoring more against Clemson. Nothing ever goes according to plan. I credit Sellers for his "win at all costs" mentality as leader of the offense.

Yeah, shitforbrains21 keeps moving the bar. Not enough to just beat Clemson at Clemson. We have to beat them by more than other teams did.

These haters must have the most miserable existence imaginable.

He led an offense that helped us win 9 games

and another really good school liked what they saw. I'm sure they talked to a lot of other coaches and just didn't base their hiring decision on watching us on tv.

Apparently, he has a good reputation and other coaches in the business think a lot of him.

They also probably saw our barely average offensive line and noticed that some really good calls were made, but the pass protection wasn't there most of the time.

I won't miss Loggains. He was inconsistent at best, and benefitted from our best defense in a long time.

To be fair, he was saddled with that OL that was being built slowly.

Agree with Lawman that the next OC should also give a lot of latitude to sellers to improvise. I just don't want it being a mainstay of our offense.

We will probably need that offense to step up big time too, as our defense is losing a lot.

So who is next?

I have a feeling we go internal. But Beamer should be able to bring in many options. Gone is the myth that he has to settle for bad hires like Satterfield and Loggains.

Our recent success should dispel that.

So who do you have coming in? Or who would you want?

I don't know all in the mix. But, I think it will be Shula. He has been an OC in the NFL and, of course, was Alabama's HC for several seasons. I really don't have any opinion on him up or down.

Wasn't impressed with his stint as UT head coach but I guess that was a different gig.

He was Tennessee's Head Coach? Are you sure about that?
My bad. Was getting him confused with Derek Dooley. Both sons of famous coaches. And both unsuccessful SEC head coaches though Shula had one good season at Bama (but not great by their standards).

(Quick Scan): Watson and Lurker are happy Loggains is leaving. Shocker.

We were almost a two man show on offense (Sellers/Sanders) and that offense was 100% green at the beginning of this season.

Nonetheless, we ended up averaging 31.8 points and 410 yards per game which was right behind UGA.

Once it was gelling the 2nd half of the season, the offense averaged 497 yards per game which (if scaled) would have been 3rd in the nation behind Ole Miss and Miami.

App State traditionally knows what they are doing with Football HC hires.

On the flip side, these guys....

You're just not a reasonable fan. The defense literally scored one fewer TD than the offense in the Oklahoma game.

I’m sure it will be someone we never heard of

Now that I think more about it, I recall Beamer bypassing Freddie Kitchens, who was an offensive analyst here, to hire Loggains. He might do the same thing this time. Whoever it is, I hope they run a balanced offense and can effectively coach quarterbacks.

Why not promote the guy who was head coach at Georgia State and resigned to rejoin our staff this year? I forget his name but he’s an outstanding coach. He was the interim Head coach for us when Spurrier quit mid year.

Yeah, Shawn Elliott. Very good coach, and more involved in the offense this year than many know. Plus, he is from Camden and would likely hang around for a while if successful.
