Heard from a reliable source that we are going to the Gator to play Notre Dame. FWIW but this person is connected.

Brett McMurphy reporting this now.. he’s the most accurate in the business.

LSU vs Purdue has been announced in the Citrus. Didn’t think we were headed there, but that dream is smashed.

Last minute politicking. The SEC is unbelievable. The Holiday bowl and Gator Bowl fighting over who gets Notre Dame. That impacts where we go. If ND to Gator, we hopefully go to the Gator. If ND not in the Gator, it appears who go to Tampa to play Illinois.

Maybe we need to pull a Missouri and tell the league we’re not going back to Tampa.

I do not blame the fan base for this. I blame the conference. We’ve gone to Tampa too many times in a short period of time. Now there is Tampa fatigue. We probably don’t need to go to Tampa for the next 20 years…and even then people still might not like it.

Oregon has agreed to play in the Holiday Bowl and evidently a ND-Oregon matchup is more appealing to ND. Craziness. If ND goes to Holiday Bowl, it looks like UNC goes to Gator and they don’t want us against UNC since we played them in the Mayo bowl and open with them next year. So we head to Tampa

Correct. Played like crap vs a very good LSU team.
We also played in the very first Gator Bowl (and lost).

Seems like these bowls should have worked all of this out before the last minute.

Isn’t it ironic that basically Notre Dame is the one holding us by the balls as it relates to bowl selection?

NDs QB quit the team. They know they probably gonna lose the bowl. ND is trying to pick the opponent who seems “less bad” to lose to.
Mixed feelings. Love to play Notre Dame but if they’re on a 4th string QB it would be hard to get too excited about that.

ND doesnt wanna play us. Thats what’s happening
They being independant and desirable they'll evidently pick what they want. If it were me, I'd tell them no playoffs for you until you join a conference and honor the tie ins.

Cities South Carolina has visited for bowl games (to the best of my knowledge). The year listed below is the football season.

Tampa five times (2000, 2001, 2008, 2012, 2017)

Jacksonville four times (1946. 1980, 1984, 1987)

Orlando three times (1975, 2011, 2013)

Atlanta two times (1969, 2010)

Birmingham two times (1979, 2009)

Charlotte two times (2018, 2021)

Memphis two times (1988. 2006)

Shreveport two times (2005, 2014)

Miami one time (1994)

Hoping one day for South Carolina to play in New Orleans.

Problem is 5 times in 17 years is a lot.

It’s us and ND in the Gator. Woo hoo. I hope we punish ND for the last minute drama.

I've always wanted to play in the Cotton Bowl. Win one in Texas.

This is great for SC. Notre Dame is beatable, but no downer if you lose but play a good game. Playing with the big boys like ND is good for SC and recruiting optics. far better than a predictable win over nobody Illinois.
