Mack Brown recruiting

He is!! Second time around. Has a national champ ring & does what great recruiters do...sells the “sizzle” of his program. In this case, the UNC “brand” thanks to the success of the basketball program over many, many years. A lot of these footballers...had they had their druthers...would be hoopsters instead!!

UNC has cheated for years. You don't think money isn't involved nowadays! Deep pockets go a long ways. They couldn't even win their side of the ACC with the best team they've ever had probably. There's logically no reason for those recruits to go there except for the local guys or someone who's family members may have played there prior. Look at the teams in the top 25 from yesterday. There's several surprising teams there, you think that just randomly happened, hell no, money, money, and more money.
Just like Dion Sanders and his crew buying guys.
I say we all give less to the gamecock club and we just literally use that money to buy some players.

Hopefully his success is hurting Clemson as they cant just come into NC and take who they want without a fight for them. UNC had several choose UNC over Clemson this year. Last year they seemed to lose those battles. Hopefully success on the field will follow as Mack has always been viewed as a great recruiter, but not so good game day coach. Time will tell.

A win in a bowl won't hurt, specially when have players bailing on us for the NFL or got their feeling hurt because a player signs with us or transfers in. Are they going to pout in the NFL when a better player comes in and take their position?

Yes, understand that, UNC had four of its best players sit out the A&M game last year. Glad to see Howell finish what he started at UNC although I am/was really surprised at his decision to play.
@heelzfor2 Has he given any indication of retiring? He can surely recruit. Seems to be a good guy. You don’t hear any controversy around him

The National Championship does not hurt recruiting either. This bowl game is important for both teams

We are going to get clobbered in Charlotte. Might as well get prepared. Howell will go off on us big time. We have no QB, Engabare gone, White gone. Not looking good at all. Just hope it is not Clemson bad.

Our only hope is that we hang around and keep it close and Mack Brown decides to call all plays late in the 4th.

If Joyner could throw, he would be doing it by now.
There’s honestly no reason to even throw against their defense. Line him up in the wildcat and let’s go. Do the same with JuJu. If we call a bunch of pass plays and let our statue QB stand back there getting sacked then it’ll be worse than Clemson.

In addition to not throwing well, he also doesn't hand the ball off. Every time he's in at QB it's a designed run and he's keeping. That's the opposite of the read-run option where Bentley almost NEVER kept. Even UNC's defense can sniff that out. Now, if the staff has installed some plays for him to hand off or if they've come up with some option offense we haven't seen all year, then I guess he's the guy.

I do think direct snaps to RB is a good idea here and there.

If we get down two scores we tend to have a habit of abandoning the running game and throwing it all the time. This game we need to stick to the running game no matter what, grind it out and limit their offense as much as we can. We need to get creative in the run game too.

Mack has a top ten class, and the #1 class in the ACC. We are 5th in the east in recruiting. Hopefully...he's about retire soon. The old man is a Master at recruiting.
Well, he is in his third year so its pretty expected. Give Shane a couple more years into his tenure to develop his culture and program.

Mack built up pretty quickly though. His classes have been higher ranked since his second class. (First full year recruiting)

That Howell class was 30 or 31, after that it's been inside the top 20.

Not that I've heard/seen. A few weeks ago some of the other coaches on the recruiting trail were trying to use his age against him and say he was retiring, however he quickly put that rumor to rest. He also is very complimentary of Beamer.

Yes, if not first rounders IMHO they should finish what they started at the school that gave them the scholarship to start with......

I usually am the type of guy to look at a situation and say "what's next?" And when I see this opting out, I only think it's going to start sooner and sooner. And I don't think that's good for college football.

Agree, the way I see it is the school gave them the opportunity to showcase their skills and get an education in order to move on to the next level and make millions, the least they can do, unless a first rounder, is play for that school until the season is 100% over. That's just me, I know there are varying opinions on this subject out there.

Since it's all about the players, I say eliminate every bowl except the ones all the players want to play in.

Well, Mack Brown is not starting from scratch. Brown knows the N. Carolina area and also he's also LOVED in North Carolina due to his past coaching. But Beamer is building great relationships--and more TEAM-CHANGING players likely cling to SHane Beamer him going forward.
