Make a player sit out the first 5 games when they transfer

I think it’ll take about 5 years or so but my guess is all the transferring is going to prove mostly detrimental to the kids/players but it’s going to take that long for people to realize it and change their patterns - right now it’s the thing to do

I could see this.

and maybe this will stop some of this transferring crap.
I would be willing to bet it will be the exact opposite. Could see it becoming like free agency. Kid transfers mid season and will be eligible for the next game. I hate to see it but I could see it going in that direction.

How long has it taken to figure out that all the lying coaches and extravagant recruiting trips are detrimental to the players?

Lot of these guys don't have good mentors looking out for them. They have to learn on their own and navigate all the lies and empty promises.

Hard to blame teenagers for how disgusting recruiting has become.

Yeah I don’t disagree with you. I think there are several layers to what’s sort of going wrong with college football.
I was speaking more to just the specifics that I think eventually players will see through other’s experiences that transferring works out less favorable for the athlete most of the time.
I also think this is a broken system that’s constantly sort of being propped back up by the immense money and popularity it produces but like a Jenga stack, if the parts that are broken don’t get fixed at some point you pull out that ONE piece that brings the whole thing crashing down.
I just wonder if the NIL stuff is going to be that piece - and a lot of people will place the blame solely on that while ignoring the system in reality has been broken a long time.

We have to wait until there are no more players who can opt for an extra COVID year before we revisit the transfer rule. Can you blame a kid for wanting to transfer if he's been waiting to start and the current starter decides to return for another season?

Most Gamecocks fans are very excited about Spencer Rattler playing for South Carolina. Do you want Rattler to sit out the first five games of the 2022 season?

A lot of fans encouraged Beamer to use the portal to build the roster. It sounds some people are okay with the portal when it helps their favorite team but not when it hurts it.

I'm on board, just as long as the coaches have to sit out 5 games when they leave for new jobs. If we're going to deal out repercussions for leaving programs, let us be fair across the board. If not, then it's free enterprise. After all, we do live in a capitalist society.
I hate this BS stance that many are on board with. Playing football isn't these kids jobs....and if they think it is or that they are NFL HOF material right now then they're idiots.

It isn't free enterprise. It's education-sponsored sports. You get a scholarship worth 100k or more (easily) all told w/ education, lodging, meals, medical, etc. at most places. It's big business because of the business people behind the scenes that made it that way...not because of the players on the field. Coaches are paid professionals. College football players are not...even though they're getting paid.

I'm very pro - Capitalism....but this new "system" drips of welfare on steroids. Getting something for doing nothing. Taking from the system that you didn't put anything significant into. Oh...the top 200-300 players that do drive the collegiate sports and are significant? They'll be well compensated when they become professionals....where capitalism should exist for the players. College sports is ruined every second that the day goes on.

This. It's going to be a Rollercoaster. One day the transfer primal is awesome, the next it's terrible.

But as long as it's there, it should be used. What would the upcoming year look like for Beamer had he not landed rattler?

Playing football at the collegiate level is very much a job. It's free enterprise now due to the big business behind the sport. Billion dollar television deals, million dollar coaches and multimillion dollar stadiums for everyone involved, except the kids...until now. It's very much free enterprise. It's the American Way.

C'mon man. College sports became big business the moment the first game was broadcast on television. Sure, they are promised an education, but we all know that is not the main goal for the majority of these kids. Politics, favoritism and nepotism have been a part of sports forever. if a kid has a chance to leave for another opportunity and not be punished, then I'm all for it. They are young adults after all. Who are we to limit their exposure and their right to seek greener pastures. The game has changed, either adapt or be left behind. For once in our history, we are making strides within a system instead of playing catch-up.

"Taking from the system that you didn't put anything significant into."

Wow. Just wow.
