105-41 in 11 years as a HC and 1 of just 5 teams with bowl wins 4-years straight (joining Oregon, A&M, South Carolina and one other team) ... MOST of his losses were $$$-games playing against MUCH LARGER programs.

Was QB coach at SEC's MS State under Dan Mullen before taking the LA-L job turning around a team 3-21 in the two years before he got there to 9-wins his first year ... he's had five 10-win seasons in 11 years as a HC.

He's 46-years old and has sent a dozen players to the NFL since taking over LA-L 5-years ago. His current salary is $750,000/yr.

A buddy supposedly in 'the know' told me our plane's been down there 3-times since SOS retired. Beats the guys he's supposed to beat and loses to 'Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, like that where he's clearly outgunned talent wise. But usually plays 'em pretty tough. He's had to play a lot of those ... if he stayed 'in-conference' his record would look like SOS's at Florida in the 90's.

Definitely an 'offensive' minded coach, SEC asst. experience, born, raised and educated in Mississippi ... young and aggressive. Could be a 'dark horse'. Had to 'vacate' 9-wins plus his bowl win due to an 'illegal' player his 1st year there (inherited) self-imposed ... FWIW Nick Saban had to vacate 7-wins his 1st year at Alabama for the same reason (also self-imposed) ... guy's not a 'cheater'. GREAT recruiter getting a dozen NFL'ers to go there instead of LSU/Texas/ole' Miss/MS State or A&M.

Could be one of those 'in the running'. Vegas bookmakers making odds have him on the 'short list' ... 5th behind Smart, Elliott (close 2nd), Orgeton & Fuentes but well-ahead of Herman, who they don't wager is in the Top 8 for our job. Herman certainly SOUNDS like a guy who (career-wise) doesn't think it's a good move to jump ship after just 1-year (ala' Lane Kiffin) and knows 1) 2-3 great years at Houston will only help his stock, and 2) surrounded by 2X's as many people than the entire state of SC within a 30-mile circle of Houston he doesn't have to go TOO FAR to find great players, and 3) he's still young and there will be plenty of other VERY GOOD jobs opening up, probably sooner rather than later. (Auburn's Malzahn is certainly trending 'down' w/o Cam Newton). Arkansas has also under-performed while WAY overpaying the guy from Wisconsin.

COULD be 'the guy'.

I put him forward for the job right after CSS retired. He's young, energetic, intense and seems to enjoy recruiting. Perhaps he needs some experience at a school in a stronger conference before taking a job in the SEC but he could be a 25 year homerun hire. Rod what is up with CMH and the NCAA.

Pretty good resume for a guy right in the heart of SEC country. But hasn't gotten a sniff at a bigger job in these parts? Something tells me there is a reason for that.
